Hi. Father O’Way(FOW) here. You know me now as Sandy, affectionately I’m sure. Anyhoo I have been asked to interview Lourdes Shitstirfer Muckrake(LSM). As you know there has been a lot of debate going on over at The Drum about climate change so I’m interviewing a leading critic against climate change. Here’s a transcript.
FOW: So, Lourdes Shitstirfer you oppose climate change and even say that the planet is cooling?
LSM: Please, call me Shit. Most people that know me refer to me by that name.
FOW: Okay, Shit, you claim that the planet is cooling?
LSM: Yes, from one year to another the temperature changed, big deal, I mean who gives a fig. If you look at 2000 to 2010 the temperature went down.
FOW: However the temperature from 1880 to now has gone up, how do you explain that?
LSM: That’s crap.
FOW: Sorry, I thought you said it was Shit.
LSM: Yes, it’s Shit but that’s crap.
FOW: Crap?
LSM: Yes, shit.
FOW: Hmm, how about the oceans are acidifying?
LSM: Hey, nothing wrong with a bit of acid man, I mean, my school days and that, wow.
FOW: What about the rising coastline?
LSM: Yeah, man, surf’s up in the western suburbs, whoa!
FOW: How about renewable energy?
LSM: If it’s renewable and that energy can be renewed then I think that renewable energy is very renewable and therefore renewable.
FOW: That’s crap?
LSM: No, Shit.

Monktons, Abbotts, Murdochs don’t have any place in my world. I know they exist and and have plenty of support in Australia, and as I live here I just have to try and ignore them. No matter how loud I shout they are not going away, only when/if the majority of Australians start shouting with me we might get somewhere….

Years ago when mankind accepted the astonishing discovery that 2 apples plus 2 apples made four, there were some sceptics as well. They believed fervently that 2+2 equaled five and were known as ‘five apples’ believers.
Today we have a minority of 5 applers who reject the notion that using the world as an open sewer is damaging and not very clever. They also deny the benefits of buses, Vegemite and cleaner energy. They live underground, never use electricity and apart from 5 apples have holes in their heads and believe in perpetual soft motions which they drop on unsuspecting and vulnerable bystanders.
Just watch where you walk. Monckton is clearly a five appler.

What amazes me n Hadron, is that nobody has ever been able to predict the weather. It rains during (supposedly sunny) cricket afternoons, and rains at open-air pop festivals, after the weather “person”, has forecast dry days.
How come they can do it now?
They always got it wrong, until they invented a tax on their predictions. Then all of a sudden they’re geniuses…..Sounds fishy to moi.

As I have often said ( and her indoors agrees) Australians are very objective. It’s hard to get you to think in an abstract way.
It is simply a joke reflecting two fictitious people, Hadron & Vectis , (substitute this for Kevvy & Bruce, if you like).
It is not meant to be taken literally. One of the gripes of the last 100 years is that weather forecasters have been notoriously inaccurate. Actually completely and utterrly incorrect, in fact.
Case-in-point: we delayed booking a cottage on The IOW, because that Wimbledon ‘super-duper’ forecaster said there would be lightning and thunder storms on the south coast.
They are fair game for joke-butts.

Yes, Lad, no need to make an idiot of yourself. Anyway, I usually do predict tomorrow’s weather correctly. Most weatherforecasts are in fact correct or nearly correct. The wind sometimes blows potential rain away (especially in the summer) and I can see we missed it but people 6 kilometres east got the rain the lucky buggers. That has nothing to do with climate change and rising CO2 levels being dangerous. If your body temperature goes up by 2 degrees you might wind up in hospital, you won’t be well – same applies to our Earth.

BTW, I was in Bangkok last week. it was a (more than balmy) 37 deg.
It was however, business as usual for the Bangkokees.
There was a heady bouquet of fruit and sewage in the breeze. It was quite nice and very redolent of my childhood in Indonesia…sigh, those halcyon, salad days.
BTW, Duty free is not so, these days.
My favourite, Paco Rabanne, pour homme, is cheaper here. However I indulged in Paco Rabanne ‘MILLION’, because I like the bottle. Now that is a bit cheaper, but not much.
Anyway, my youngest son is flying up to the coast, from Steak N’ kidney tonite, so I must dash. he’s bringing his new girlfriend. We haven’t met her. He has never settled. We’ve met many in the past. They have moved into an apartment near (I think ) Rushcutter’s Bay.

So why write misleading stuff. It is so subtle it is not even apparent. Is the trick to ignore what you write – guess so. Indian takeaway is a very pleasurable thing to do. Trick there is to get it home as fast as possible. And take the naan out of the bag so it doesn’t go soggy.

The Indian meal was surprisingly good Viv. We all thought so.
The Naan was a bit, how you say, soggy. Especially the garlic naan. We had some chapati too. My biriyani was excellent with a combination of spices, not just chilli and curry powder. We were all impressed.
They offer on-line ordering, but I went for the telephone. $ 139 for feeding 6 lusty folks.
Mini Ecuador choc-ices for dessert. Made by Magnum and available at Coles……beeeeauutiful. 🙂

In Hung’s writing we find intact the original Australian larrikin spirit. Born of hard times; dismissive and contemptuous of authority, sceptical and always willing to laugh at a train wreck.
This follows in the tradition of Lawson and Patterson, or more recently Clarke and Dawe, and it’s impeccable self deprecation, and its unerring accuracy in penetrating and deflating Monckton’s hubris with a thousand pricks makes it a very funny piece.
These occasional pieces that you rush off in a huff are some of your best HOO. They show how easily your raw feel for this kind of thing allows your writing to transcend and at the same time surpass the pretensions of those of us with literary aspirations.

Warrigal, I asked several friends, acquaintances and shopkeepers (when I wandered in to buy stuff: newspapers, shoes, gifts, tickets for boats ect), about Monckton.
Not one person in The UK, that I spoke to had ever heard of him….NOT ONE!

I assume you’re a reasonably intelligent person with at least some ability to critique even those on your side of politics; so why these puerile pot shots? I can answer that simply.
There have been numerous, one side personal shots at various International and national political figures. They have varied from metaphors about Abbotts trunks, to calling ex pollies actual turds.
I object to this, because my method was always to call people duplicitous or dishonest. That is that way I was educated.
So I decided to return the compliment.
I could cut and paste myriad disparaging comments; some of course absoulutely and completely warranted.
You will find that if I spot something like, “Shit is also a condescending ignorant bastard. ” I feel compelled to interject–just to bring some sanity.
Now, Australian governance: I think that ity ios fair to say that anybodu could do better than Gillard. Yes, even Abbott.
My preference would be for Turnbull, but that has to be played out yet.
Hockey, gets his fair share of nasty adjectives thrown at him too, however he has more talent in his (if one can see it) belly-button than the tediously foolish Swan.

My mind is crystal clear on global warming too.
I said 2 1/2 years ago that I would dwell on it and I have reached a personal conclusion that it seems likely. Not because I can understand the evidence of fossils, atmosphric pressure, ocean currents, methane emitting, vulcanology and its related polluton, gravity, sun-spots, earthquakes, icebergs, Gwondana-joined-to-South-America, hot summers icy blasts, ozone holes, reflected heat, atmospheric moisture, ect ect. ‘BUT” because I cannot see why thousands of diligent scientists arounfd the world could be wrong, or swindlers in unison.
I defy anyone to really understand it. They are lyers if they say much more than, “it seems likely, based on the evidence”.
NOW I do not know of any indisputable evidence that it is man made. Coerrect me if I am wrong. I believe that the jury is still out–and is looking for the holy grail.
In the meantime if anyone can tell me how collecting tax from Kevin & Sheila in Wagga-Wagga, will stop the Eurasian pollution, I’m all ears.
If we are going to collect mony, and we don’t have so much now, as we are paying $5billion in interest now, It should be spent on turning green. This is what they are doing in The UK. They do NOT have a carbon tax.
Tax will not stop China (just to pick one country) emmiting more carbon in a coup[le of weeks than we can save in a hundred years.
Now I know that Malcolm believes in an ETS. But it is not fine-tuned and he knows that. I would support one if it was discussed; and the merits argued. Something that this incumbent bunch have not done. First they said that there would not be a tax and then changed their mind overnight.

YES, we do need a Rhodes Scholar in charge. Both Abbott and Turnbull went to Oxford. Gillard is an ex-mediocre solicitior and simply does not cut the mustard.

Vectis I’d prefer not to get into whose better than who but for goodness sake. Hockey! Hockey has difficulty with basic maths, he can’t explain how he has an $11b hole in his costings at the last election. If and I strongly suggest if he could have we may well have a coalition government. Anything he puts his hand to seems to blow out massively. Direct Actions costing out by something like 4x. On top of that it will cost every person in the country $750 per year.
You talk about Rhodes scholars, what is that Vectis some sort of interlectual superiority or maybe just looking down the noses of us poor colonials. Now I don’t mind Malcolm when he says something he tends to stick to it, though he did have problems with a made up emails if I recall. Abbott on the other hand is simply dangerous. He’ has all the hallmarks of a European dictator of the early 20th century. Has no policy, will tell you whatever you want to hear, has almost a free rein in the press. He would be an unmitigating disaster running the county with the fools behind.
You can be as disparaging as you like about Gillard. Why, because she’s a woman doing a “mans” job perhaps. I find it sickening how the Liberals, who nowadays operate like neofascists, demonstrate such misogyny and disrespect for the position. What I also find amazing is in this parliament that the Labor party has managed to pass over 150 pieces of legislation. That might suggest to me that she has the odd skill in negotiating. Something Abbott is bereft of. His idea is the machine gun approach.

Oxford is one of the top ten Universities in the world. Bob Hawke studied there.
Having said that, my brother did his masters at Oxford; and I am just an academic in street life, so it’s not always indicative.

My opinions are mine alone. I hold the copywrite to ‘my’ opinion that The Prime Minister should be the best person for the job. Gillard clearly isn’t. Vectis I’m aware what Oxford it reputation and what a Rhodes scholar is. My point is that doesn’t necessarilaly qualilfy someone for a job or PM for that matter. In fact I can point to many who are highly qualified people who have no common sense and are totally useless within the workforce and where academia is the only real place they can work. I can point to others though who are absolutely brilliant what they do.

She also runs rings around Abbott and Turnbull as regards negotiation skills are concerned. I don’t see Abbott or Turnbull as the best for the job either. Turnbull lacks the political nouse and Abbott is quite frankly dangerous. The thinks nothing of committing Treason in the parliament under privilge. Its that sort of respect I’m talking about.
Maybe we do take politics too seriously. Its an interest I’ve had since my youth and galvanised by the sacking of Whitlam. And as you say those are your opinions and mine are mine. Of those we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

You won’t find many Rhodes Scholars without common sense. Academic ability is only part of the qualification.
One of my sisters should have got one but she didn’t have the sense to play their game. So she had to settle for a scholarship to the other place. Didn’t do too badly for self afterwards though.

Rhodes’ legacy specified four standards by which applicants were to be judged:
Literary and scholastic attainments;
Energy to use one’s talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports;
Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.
At what point will you give in and say…honestly. “Julia Gillard, doesn’t meet any of the criteria.”

The story of how she got her Blue is quite amusing. I won’t say what sport, but she wasn’t accepted into the top team at Cambridge in her first year, probably not unconnected to her under-developed political skills (inability to kiss arse). Anyway, she just went and played for the top Town team, and helped them win the season. Next season she was invited.

Ignoring the palaver, the 3D printer is truly amazing. I once saw a DIY video on how to make a small and rough 3D printer for about $3,000 worth of parts. It made things about the size of a packet of cigarettes that is, if you scanned yourself, the replica would be the size of a small toy. And I seriously doubt that the software or the hardware was up to coloured moving parts. That bit was truly amazing – if in fact it is a reality.
