Okay, you patient piglets! Here it is:
These links take you to 4-shared, where you may either download the mp3 files onto your hard drive or a cd/dvd to have your very own FREE ‘Burnside Refugees’ record album!( At least… it’ll be a recording of THIS refugee from Burnside, currently living in Paradise…) You’ll all just have to imagine them with a bass, drums, strings, keyboards, vocal harmonies, etc…
Or if you play an instrument and you’d like to do more than just imagining them, perhaps you might like to consider becoming a ‘Reffo’ yourself. If you play an instrument and live within easy traveling distance from Paradise, please leave a comment on this thread… It will be answered within 24 hrs… 48 hrs, tops!
Anyway, without further ado, for the Front Bar’s exclusive entertainment, Ladies and gents, a big hand please, for the BURNSIDE REFUGEE!

I tried again and am urged to download something together with an ad for shipping goods somewhere. I can’t get it to work but I pushed the ‘like’ button as I think your posting has brought out the worms in the woodwork better perhaps than if it would have worked.
The heat here has been bad and with the three grandsons we have been flat out with pancakes, golden syrup and barbqd chicken wings with peanut sauce and loading the fridge with soft drinks. Putting plasters on bruised and bleeding limbs from skateboarding but some respite when they all went to see a movie with a moral tale…Oh, it was The Rise of the Guardians.

Well… thanks for trying anyway, Gerard… I thought we had all the bugs worked out but evidently not! I don’t think you would have downloaded the ad… just the track (you DID press the blue ‘download’ button, not the green one, didn’t you?) which would have been downloaded as an mp3 file… should be playable even on Windows Media Player…
My mates over at the Blues Guitar Unleashed website had a little trouble at first, but were able to access my files once I’d changed the permissions…
I really wish I knew how to upload music straight from my pc…

I don’t know if it can be loaded straight from your pc or is it that you’ve not investigated it … send an email?
Astyages, I promise I tried to listen to the files. I logged in reluctant as I was and realised I joined as a free member before. I have to acknowledge the recording quality seem poor, but it wasn’t very loud. I am sorry. I have tried as best as I can for now. 😦

Hello, Not Me (Oh OK, it is).
We recognise you are, of course, piglet Voice from the gravatar. How lovely you dropped into the bar t’other day. And me not in at the time, gallivanting as I have been around some writing. I had a family visit me as well and stay on their way through (lovely family! lovely time!).
HNY back, Voice. Thank you kindly for the shout. Thank you very most kindly for giving this technical trouble we are having a go.
Come and see us again soon. Have a pink drink on the tab (someone will throw in an expense account slip I reckon at this time of the year). 😉

Hi Asty. Happy New Year!
I also have the sandshoe problem ( HNY, ‘shoe. You are welcome to call it the Voice problem. 🙂 ).
The most likely problem when the person who uploads something can access it but no-one else can is there isn’t public access, particularly when the error message is the same one you’d get if it just wasn’t there (as in this case).
My guess is that the 4Shared default is for access to be public so I don’t know why it wouldn’t be, but have a look here http://wiki.4shared.com/index.php/Security_overview#Restricting_access which tells you about access. Or alternatively upload a single file from scratch the simplest way possible which I guess should give you public access by default and get someone ELSE to try the new link.
P.S.
I tried the following chosen completely at random from 4-shared and no problems http://www.4shared.com/mp3/bOCPBk-q/MC_NALDO_-_AMOR_DE_CHOCOLATE.html
The problem is associated with your particular files. It needs to be fixed by you, with help from 4Shared support if necessary and if such an animal exists (the error message is “The file link that you requested is not valid”) ; the people trying to download it can’t do anything to fix this problem.
P.P.S. That is all I know. Goodbye and good luck.

Thanks Voice… and I must say it’s nice to hear from you again; I do hope you’ll stick around… I’m about to post the first episode in a new and thrilling sci-fi fantasy about one of the strangest planets in the galaxy; a place know to the Galactic Federation as Far Kinnell…
Anyway… the ‘files’ thingo… yes, I think I discovered that myself last night when I was checking file permissions; I’d probably ticked the wrong button in a fit of paranoia…
Needless to say, I’ve changed the permissions now (though to be on the safe side, I will check ’em again!) to make all contents of a special ‘pigsarms’ folder available to the public… so they should be working now… Would someone mind trying some of the links to see if they’re working now?

Just had another thought: the ‘download’ button you want is the blue one, which downloads just the file in question; the green ‘download’ button downloads a 4-shared desktop application that you probably won’t need unless you’re gonna get into some serious file-sharing… (I haven’t downloaded it myself yet; haven’t needed it; but maybe will in near future!)
Dammit; I may even have to see if 4-shared have any tutorials that may be relevant; too buggered to do it tonite; MANYANA!

Yes, I tried but could not open them. There was something about having to down load something.
I’ll try again tomorrow but have been busy with very hot airports and grandsons with skate boards and plasters over bruised limbs.

Ah… I think you may have actually been at 4-shared’s media player, Gerard; sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to load up and sometimes you may have to wait for an ad to play through… (It’s in a window…) The ‘download’ button is an option; you can download a copy of these songs to your own pc if you want, but I don’t think it’s actually necessary; although, having said that, perhaps downloading it might solve ‘Shoe’s problem… although I’m not sure ‘Shoe even got as far as you did… have you tried membership ‘Shoe?
Oh dear… I really wish I understood more about these things… where’s Voice when you need her?! I may even be reduced to reading the instructions! Why would the links work for me but not everyone else? Seems remarkably odd to me, unless, of course, it does have something to do with membership… Gez, are you a member?
LOL! Good luck with the bruised grandsons! Hey, how old is he/are they? A ten-year-old boy may be just what we need to solve this techie problem!

One more thought about where you musta been Gerard:
If you had clicked on what looks like a graphic representation of a speaker (it’s actually a graphic representation of a speaker! Providing, that is, that you have no ad to watch on this little media player… if an ad is playing, just let it run through then click the ‘go’ button) just above the blue ‘download’ button, it should play the files you choose… hope you have better luck with it tomorrow (or I’ll be FORCED to read the instructions!)

‘Shoe, a thought just crossed my mind (not a long journey!) I wonder if the reason you can’t get these links to work may have somthing to do with ‘4-shared’ membership?
Perhaps you need to be a member to access files… If so, 4-shared DO do a FREE membership… ya might juss have ta puddup wif an ad or two though…
I can recommend 4-shared as a file-sharing service though… I’ve never had any problems with it; only thing I don’t like about it is the player seems to make all my recordings sound ‘tinny’ no matter how I edit them… (I wish you could hear what these songs sound like on my pc; a much more robust, fuller sound than comes through on 4-shared’s player)
Anyway, just wanna say 4-shared are good guys; nothin’ scary… ‘kay? So ya don’ hafta wurry ’bout nuffin’ if you sign up wif ’em, ‘kay?

Hello asty sorry I’ve not been around for a couple of days. I am slaving over a hot story and having no ends. You’ll see.
Trouble is time and focus to solve this and the file link is still not working. I do at least have the page with the ‘blue’ and ‘green’ buttons you refer to so it is not reading anymore that the file name is invalid.
I will have a look again later. Myself, I think I ought not have to sign up for a membership with 4shared to hear your file, but if there is no alternative I will consider it. I don’t recall I signed up when I listened to other of your files in the past, but maybe.
You could send an email to 4shared perhaps? To ask if the requirement is to hear it that your friends have to sign up for a membership? I sometimes ask about the rules of websites when I am having trouble understanding a feature. My experience has always been positive. 🙂
I mention that I wonder that you need to understand the website yourself in any case if this is where you are choosing to load your files, asty. I can think of situations that might reveal themselves in the future and cause you grief. For now I am so sorry to disappoint you that I still have not been able to access the files. 😦
Many thanks for giving it consideration and doing your best to rectify it so we can access the files.
I will be back later.
PS Weather hot. Fish lazy. Hope you’re OK, troubador asty, in the heat through these days of heat wave.
‘Shoe.

Actually ‘Shoe… you DON’T have to sign up for any membership… though given what 4-shared is set up to do, it’s not too unreasonable a request (well… I’d have thought so anyway!)
So I DO hope you’ll give it another go when you get your story straight!
I too, have been wandering the nether slopes of Parnassus of late… and believe I have come up with an interesting idea for a story… the first episode is written and I shall post it probably on Monday… but at this stage I’m not sure there’s a second episode in it, although I’ve tried to set it up for a series…
Your story… a ‘fishing story’ perhaps? Weather not too bad here at the mo… about 33 degrees… AND I now have the luxury of an air conditioner AND a NEW fridge… I MEAN an actual NEW one… not secondhand! So you just worry about yourself in the heat ‘Shoe… I hear it’s gunna be vicious!

Yes, you have to sign up to download. And I didn’t want to either. Just don’t want any more sign ups. So I used someone else’s id to download the top one; Be Bop A Lula.
To be brutally frank – the sound quality of the audio is dreadful. IMHO. I don’t mean the quality of your singing and playing. I can’t say anything about that, because the recording quality is too awful to tell. I didn’t listen to the end – it was kind of like sitting at the traffic lights hearing someone’s car radio.
As far as upload/download is concerned. People prefer a site where they don’t need to sign up. Mediafire is one such site. Or was. I’m not up to date and don’t know anything about it. Strongly suggest that whatever site you end up using, 4Shared or whatever, you get someone to test the download before posting links to it on the web. Someone who’s never used the site before and isn’t using your computer or login. Preferably someone whose room you can physically be in so you can watch how it goes so you don’t have to message back and forth convincing each other of what’s happening.
Seriously, good luck with it.

But you don’t have to download anything Voice… just wait ’til any ad that might be playing on 4-shared’s media player is finished, then click on the ‘go’ button – speaker thingie…
Yeah… some of it’s the grungie sound of the Orange amp, and though you may not like this, it’s supposed to be grungy… but some of it is a kind of empty ‘tinniness’ which I think has a lot to do with 4-shared’s media player; it’s as if any editing I do on Audacity is stripped away by ‘4-shared and what is left is a very raw sound… not surprised you didn’t like it, although on my pc, the track you chose actually sounds particularly good… just grungey ennough and not tinny at all!
You don’t need to sign up just to listen, Voice… I think we established that… But only if you wanna download files… (an’ if ya gunna do that, I reck’n it’s fairy ’nuff!) Today I’ve recorded a lot of much miler-sounding stuff on my new acoustic through the new acoustic amp combo… sounds great now that I’ve edited it, but I wonder if even a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar and all my fancy fingerpicking wouldn’t sound thin and tinny on 4-shared…
You’re right about having someone to test uploads etc… the nearest I’ve got to this, though, are the members at BGU (Blues Guitar Unleashed) though these guys are most helpful whenever I’ve asked for help or advice… it usually comes in floods! But of course, with these dudes, it means some serious messaging back’n’forth!
Hmmmm… maybe I could email their ‘help’ dude and ask how I can get a better sound out of their player… might be worth a shot!
Anyway, all the best for the new year, Voice! Hope to see more of you here at the Pigs’!

Actually, now I think about it… I suppose if I needed to, I could always get Abner to do that for me while he’s over for a practice session… ‘Course it means piglets might have to wait a bit longer for my musical posts, but if it can improve the overall sound…
Thanks for the idea, Voice!
