“No, fuck it. She’s far better off dead”, said Jayell.
“That’s a bit harsh, isn’t it”, Merv replied.
“Come on, she was the complete bastard. She waged war on the working class in Britain. She destroyed the union movement. She cut welfare. She privatised everything that moved and a lot of things that didn’t move” Said Jayell, who was removing a very large volume of bile from his liver and was starting to accelerate into the home stretch.
“She deregulated the financial sector”, Added Emmjay, helpfully.
“She led Britain through the greatest period of post WW II expansion”‘ said Gez.
“Yeah, and she ordered the deaths of how many hundred Argies on the General Belgrano ?” said Jayell. “She was a fuckin’ Mussolini in pearls and twinset”.
“But she did lead Britain out of her doldrums and she created a generation of entrepreneurs out of an unemployed hoard with a belief system of entitlement without contribution or effort” added Gez.
“You know what used to piss me off more than anything else, was her arrogance, inflexibility and smugness – like these were the only qualities a leader needed. She ran the whole country like the fucking corner shop of her childhood. Cash, profit and hang the poor. Sweep up, keep it neat. Keep sweeping up. I made it through sheer hard work so everyone in Britain has to do it my way. She was a countess all right – an effing countess”, said Jayell.
“Baroness, actually” said Merv.
“No, she had a couple of kids” said H.
” I dunno”, said Merv “is there a time to bury the hatchet when a great leader – whether you agreed with them or not – kicks the bucket ?”
“Bury what hatchet ? said Granny, late to the party, but bearing a massive welcome tray of wedges.
“Probably should ask the wife of an unemployed coal miner whose kids went hungry” said Emmjay.

AT lunch today I happened upon a rerun of last night’s QandA with, amongst others, Germaine Greer. Tony Jones did a cut to breaking news about Maggie T’s death and amongst a lot of comments less vitriolic than I might have expected, Germaine reminded us of the General Belgrano sinking – describing it as a war crime – and also prompted the memory of some massive arms scandal involving Mark Thatcher and some allegedly massive cover-up. Germaine said that Maggie was treated appallingly by the aristocracy after she was shoved aside – and had to resort to the speaking circuit for a quid until her dementia became more obvious. The fact that such a massive twentieth century figure and co-author of perestroika and glasnost was reduced to singing for her supper was, Germaine felt OUTRAGEOUS when Nixon had been so completely rehabilitated post-office.
Later tonight, I saw the rerun of an interview with Sir John Major – who straight-faced said that Maggie T had a soft side and never attacked people incapable of debating their way out of a paper bag. He said he once espied her comforting one of the home help who had experienced a family tragedy when the man was was having a cry. I bet if the interview had run a bit longer with Sir John he would have also said that Maggie T loved kittens…….. and that loving a poll tax was likely to get her killed politically, but the party had the sense to kick her out before it came to that.
Curious precedent with Kevin Rudd and the mining tax, co-incidence ?

They are burying her with full military honours. There will be a 21 gun salute which will aimed at the coffin… ideally with Arthur Scargill strapped to the top of it.

Sir Mark’s appearance at his mother’s funeral next week will be a rare public outing for him in the UK. He currently lives in Spain but was on holiday in Barbados with his second wife Sarah, the sister of Viscountess Rothermere, when his mother died. Sir Mark married Sarah in secret at a register office in Gibraltar, and were joined by just three guests. Neither his mother, nor Sir Mark’s twin sister Carol were among those at the ceremony.
Sarah is the former wife of Lord Francis Russell and the eldest daughter of Terry Clemence, a millionaire developer. She owns a number of properties in Mayfair, central London.
The end of Sir Mark’s first marriage coincided with the revelation of his involvement in a plot to overthrow the president of the oil-rich African state of Equatorial Guinea. In 2005, Sir Mark received a four-year suspended jail term and a £265,000 fine in South Africa, for his involvement in the so-called “Wonga Coup”.
The conviction meant that Sir Mark could not enter the US to visit his children, whose mother was given custody in the divorce.

I’ve been obsessed with fun and jokes, since the age of about 7.
You’ve obviously forgotten.
It got/gets too gloomy in here.
Like Thatcher, I’m for the individual. None of this wonky, union, clubby, bollocky dogma, for me.
Just jokes. ..And sarcasm.

One can imagine the contrast at Gillard’s death.
“She once gave a lecture on misogyny and a few Australian Bogans worshipped her.”
What an epitaph!
Aren’t you embarrassed?
Probably not; just in a sort of trance: a sleepwalk thorough the world’s affairs.
Never mind. There’s always the telly….And gay marriage?

Persecuted, we are not having death parties in Oz, it’s your own country men having them .I find it ugly, people have grieving families and we ought to respect that. We can talk about her politics though.

Abbott is in that same league. He looks just as ridiculous in his swim gear as those two purple hatted women. They are his heroes. He already promises to undo the carbon tax, the very thing the world admires us for.
Next, he will undo plain packaging of ciggies, Aldi’s lockable deposit trolleys and wine licenses. Sew up trousers pockets and ban sex before Holy Matrimony with clear evidence of Hymen present at the wedding ceremony. ( or have blood stained sheets hanging from zinc alume fences in the next morning instead)
He will lower taxes to such an extend all schools will be private and no more public hospitals. All police will be private contractors and so will be judges with Courts introducing poker machines and betting facilities.
To market, to market to buy a black hen, ta da da, da de da.

Not sure that reflects well on either the woman’s legacy or her current detractors. As for Tony, I see him more in the image of George W than Maggie T, but clearly from a similar tribe.
