In a break from the constant politicking, here’s a celebration of the fine art of hyperbolic advertising copy. FM as long time patrons of the Pig’s Arms know, is a fashionista and she receives this seasonal “newsletter” from Christine’s in Melbourne.
It’s always over the top, but this one is so far over the top it has to be an all time classic.
Read on ! (with our thanks to Christine)

However, I am obviously in accord with you.

I admit I once surprised Helvi picking her up from Mascot airport wearing a wine red safari suit with a belt that had a gold colored buckle. It was made of some kind of stretchy material and the pants were flared. With that suit I wore shoes made in Egypt made from some kind of rope or hemp.
I wanted to totally show her with a new more magical image.

I read this closely. The person who wrote that has a fabulous grasp of language. I wish I had a chance to write something like it often. I could. 1) it is creditable writing from the viewpoint of communicating sensual images regards clothing and cross-connecting with a range of other senses 2) it is writing that earns quids and I need quids that are earned in the midst of where visual expression is meeting with language easily and profusely, and not to mention unashamedly. Reading it is like viewing a Paul Gaugin painting on a wall of a Paris salon and at a fashion saloon.
For people who make the money or the time. I perhaps would like to order a bowl of silk scarves (send one each to my daughters and daughter-in-law and maybe my sons would like some for their secret lives) and a pair of those delicious sandals perhaps two mentioned at the end, might you have either of those styles in my size?

“CLASSIC Aussie outfitter RM Williams is set for a French twist as the luxury fashion house behind Louis Vuitton prepares to buy in.”
When I found this beautiful RM Williams shirt for Gez at the Vinnies, the lady behind the counter told us that LV was buying a stake in RMW…it’s true, the French know a good thing (boot) when they see it…

I like well made clothes, and that usually means that they are made by some Italian or French Fashion House, there are plenty of outlets where you can buy them pre-loved, and if I find what I am looking for, I buy them, because the price is right (cheap), they are well made of good natural fibre fabrics, they look good (added bonus), but I do not buy them because are fashionable, but because I prefer them to badly made clothes.

I am wearing 14 year old RM&W shoes, a RM&W shirt that H bought for $5.- at Vinnies and RM&W slacks that are also from the late 1990’s. Both shoes and pants are better now than when they were first bought. You just can’t wear them out.
I am a fashionista as well, but dollar-wise and look quite dandy walking with Milo. Ladies greet me with a warm smile and men nod and concur with Milo’s chasing mad galahs and wild ducks.

Yes, Gerard, you and I manage to stay at the height of fashion in the same clothes decade after decade. I bought a pair of RMW jeans about six or seven years ago, on special, but still quite expensive. They still look like new. The same with a pair of Australian made boots, nearly twenty years old, and may need new heels soon.

My pair of RMW beige colored slacks are as solid and stiff now as when I bought them. In fact, they are holding me upright now, prevent me from falling.

Yes, I’m still upright, too. $7, 000 for the eyes, a reasonable price to pay for one’s vision, but, as you say, money that some can’t afford, so will become blind, hence dependent on the State. At least your RMs provide some support!

Please, Mr GO, do not call anything made RM Williams ‘slacks’ (usually polyester, found at K mart), your pants are Moleskin Workwear…usually worn, nice and clean, by urban cowboys and Pitt Street farmers…

My advice to the fashion conscious. One day you might come across a pair of jeans/mole skins/tights which look great. Buy four pairs in black and they will last you forever. Any top will look great and any occasion will be met. From cocktails/day wear to sophisticated dances and balls to camping, from pre-dawn to 2am-look great with t-shirts.
Back to politics!
My first and last comment on fashion. Olé

Truly revolting. Arch, unlikely, theatrical vomit. No wonder the male of the species has kept women is disregard for so many thousands of years. If I were a man I’d keep this sort of woman in a zoo.
