Those possums are a real menace. Poor Milo watches them all night but they outsmart him. They eat our hot chillies. Perhaps we should grow them inside instead.
Hot chilly with cloves and aniseed mixed in a marinade to use with beef or chicken is the mostest, except for Algernon’s music treat. Perhaps having both is even better.
Thanks Algy.

It’s the bats that make the most mess. The other night you could here the bats and possums fighting in the tree. The bats make the most mess though.

An Iranian woman told me she was cured in a refugee camp in Pakistan of a serious sinus infection that made her face blow right up and her eyes, usually treated with an antibiotic. She was made by an aged woman who was sent for from the town to eat a chicken the woman killed and cooked that she rubbed with the hottest red chillis possible in quantity and garlic and cloves and rubbed red chilli powder as well into the skin. My friend said it burnt all of her lips so badly the skin peeled off and all of the interior of her mouth was raw, but she began immediately recovering from the sickness her sinus was causing her.
I’m not keen on that. I am however going to try a chicken with cloves and aniseed with my home grown chillis. Sounds curative of whatever ails me. 🙂

I never see bats here. I don’t know we have any to fight with the possums. I don’t have possums bothering me here yet as they used at a previous address (although I loved them). No trees for some time here before I moved in and I’m not advertising sweet strawberries and yummy sweet flowers on the melon vines.

Trivia. Of all the ace guitarists Bowie collaborated with, which one played Rebel Rebel (probably his most recognized and perhaps best Rick riff?
None of them.
It was Bowie himself.

Wonderful list, thank you algy. Suits my mood. Watching Carnivale television series on DVD for now. Onto Special Features and enjoying the chatter of the actors and Director about the scripts and production. Way hot here.

Been pouring here shoe, cool but humid. Taken what mangoes I can off the tree with the help of Junior and the Algernonia’s. They are some of the best we’ve had. Still plenty of bat and possum carnage going on but not many left for them. Mrs A can’t help me any more as she broke out in a rash last time. Can’t touch the sap, skin or bark but has no problem eating them. I’ve ended up with a rash this time though from picking. Still some very nice chicken and mango curries as well as eating and the like.

I got curious and googled. I have never realised the commercial mango producers wash their fruit with an antacid to protect people handling the crop and transporting it. I don’t recall anybody in my family when I was a child so badly affected.
I see that mango freezes too and remember we made mango ice blocks when I was a kid. 🙂

We wash our mangoes then wipe them dry. It had never happened before the previous crop for Mrs A and it’s the first time I’ve end up with a rash, but only in one area just under my neck. Only area exposed I guess when picking. Not only one of the best crops we’ve had, but the sweetest fruit also.

Strange how that happens that people develop allergy symptoms years on after handling an item or eating it even. Maybe it seems that way. perhaps we had previous reactions and didn’t know of it or notice it.
My place is awash with rock melons off only 6 vines. Place to grow rock melons no shadow of a doubt. Until we eat a food off its vine or tree we don’t know half I reckon. They are very delicious. I’ve discovered rock melon smoothies made simply blending the flesh with ice cubes. I was given some pears that were freshly picked. They are a little tart and the skin is tough and leathery so I blended one of those with rock melon flesh and icecubes. No words.

I’ve read that chilli pockers can develop a veey aggressive skin allergy, but not to mangoes. Also interesting that one can have a skin allergy to,a certain food, but not a gut allergy. I guess it displays the way different immunoglobulins are sensitised.
We have apple and guavas, but a very poor crop thanks to the heat.

Very interesting. I have only recently begun to think about this in depth. Lass from over the road brought me over some delicious Roma tomatoes a couple of days ago. She found growing and matured in her back yard. Yes, she’ll be the first to agree it is a mess. She found pumpkins too.
She commented she is not really into tomatoes although she ‘likes’ them because they affect her mouth. She gets sores in her mouth from eating them.
Few days earlier I had given her a pumpkin and a rockmelon and silverbeet. I know they eat zucchinis too.
