Loved it all.
I was actually there the day Doug and Renee recorded “It Only Happens” at The Dallas brooks in Melbourne. The bill included Dragon and Skyhooks, if memory serves.
Marc Hunter gave a stunning performance that night including, for want of a more adequate description, an impromptu adagio act with a girl from the audience for “Are You Old Enough”. If there was a line, Marc would jump it. That night he took a bottle of champagne with him over that line, and taking a mouthful, blew it all over the girls tshirt clad top. You can write the rest yourselves. It was an outre performance that, at first, gobsmacked the audience, left the girl shocked and confused, but finally brought the audience to it’s feet.
Renee’s band were wonderful. She always had great bands, and the outstanding performance of the night was Renee and Doug Williams rendering of “It Only Happens”. Doug was and remains a real talent that somehow never caught the train to stardom.
Marc is gone of course; throat cancer ironically; and so is the Dallas Brooks Hall and too many of the crew that I worked with on that day.

Soul music is R&B music with an even stronger influence from African-American gospel than standard R&B. … Funk instrumentation is often experimental and plays with mixing effects, electric guitars, and electronic keyboards and drum machines, while funk vocals emphasize style and rhythm over the gospel shout.
