When was the last time you scored a double yolk ? A scarce even you might agree. But TWO double yolks – for me – unheard of.
And more amazing than that – there was a third breakfast surprise on the following day.
I think Granny can rightfully claim her 15 seconds of fame with three double yolks out of the one batch of eggs.
Note, no bacon or baked beans was harmed in the taking of this photograph.

I used to keep chooks. The young first time layers frequently laid double yolkers and the eggs were big. It was not at all unusual. Then they settle down to single yolks. I’ve seen the inside of slaughtered chooks – yep often two or three yolks of varying sizes as they worked their way through.

Well I won’t tell you about the insides of a wether or a steer except you won’t fine any eggs in them.

Here’s more than you ever wanted to know about double yolk eggs. I love genetics and that sort of stuff, so this is my public service to all of youse.

And, have you ever considered that all of the chook’s genetic material is stashed in the yolk. (That put me off eggs for a while.) So, it follows that it has to be fertilised by the randy rooster before the shell forms. Now, kiddies, how and where and why are the white bit and the shell added! You may illustrate your answer with drawings.

My old man used to drink Resches Pilsener, Toohies Dinner Ale and Tooth’s. They all tasted the same, like cat’s piss.

Same. My Dad liked Flag Ale, but Pop liked Dinner Ale or DA which Dad said stood for Dirty Annie. Only Uncle Dick drank Resch’s – which Dad referred to as “dry retches”. In truth they were all pretty crap relative to today’s boutique beers. Not to mention the mighty Trotter’s Ale.

When I lived in Sydney I still drank Victorian beer. I thought Toohey’s was crap. Nowadays I drink small brewery stuff – Beechworth drop is lovely.

Bridge Road is great, the pub and the beers. I don’t think Victorian beer is any better than Sydney. Coopers is the only big brewery beer I drink. All of the Tasmanian stuff is great, but the breweries there are only a little bigger than a boutique brewery.
I did break curfew and raced into the Foghorn to get a growler filled and a pizza. I finished the growler before the pizza!!
