The Dump

The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.

NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.

give a crap

The Pig’s Arms exists because eight or nine years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off.  Like a sack of prawn heads  in the sun.  Something had to be done.

Moderation was taking forever.  Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged.   When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !

So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit.  And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.

As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire.  And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.

So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog.  Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity.  Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.

And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments.  Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

Permit system up and running. Wodonga daughter has hers and for grandchildren and I got mine this morning. Yay

    • Hi Viv… I’m sorry to hear about your hubby’s deterioration. Must be a very hard time for you all right now. I’m happy to hear that you got your permits…

But I can’t help but think “So now, right here in Australia, people need a permit to go and visit their relatives in a neighboring town…”

This reminds me of Northern Ireland during the ‘Troubles’… or Palestine currently. This ‘Covid19’ scare has certainly done a lot of work for the Government and the New World Order in terms of getting Aussies to accept social controls they would never have tolerated previously.

Anyway, be that as it may, I hope things get better for you in the near future.

    Vale Ennio Morricone.

As you might know, I’m a fan of his soundtracks for spaghetti westerns, even posted a couple of lists here.

Lot of good work from Algy today. Must say I could cheerfully throttle that old turd Taffy. I think he had a hangover of giant proportions and was extra special stupid today.

Thank you viv, yes Taff is a special brand of idiot. What I love about him is his ability to lead with his jaw.

I saw your post on the closure of the border and your situation with the family today (Monday). I’d like to hope that permits would be granted for daughters and husbands. By the way I had a letter published in the SMH on the closure and the impracticality of closing it last Wednesday,

Thanks Algy. Situation with husband gone downhill since February. I saw your SMH letter. We are hoping all residents of Albury-Wodonga will automatically be exempt. Daughter in Wodonga is trying not to panic. She’s coming over every few days and is to take us to the cancer hospital for his immunotherapy on Monday. Other daughter is also here every second day – or as needed. I’m doing full time caring – he’s back on nose tube feeding too.

PS: it was a good letter.

Friends, I know most of you are regulars at TGA but I’ve read this a couple times and the comments. This was a great belly laugh.

Here’s the first part of my very first real ‘Blues Jam’ for you to post
at the Pigs Arms… with me playing along with a LOT of other blues

Totally improvising! Let me know what you think…

    • Pretty good. Hard to keep a big bunch of musos on the same path.

      • Yeah… it was a bit like herding cats… but there were times when it definitely seemed to be coming together. Overall, though, I don’t think it was too bad to listen to, and it was fun taking part. (I think I managed to at least stay more or less in the right key… most of the time!)

For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, Girgarre’s annual ‘Moosic’ Muster (so-called because it supposedly takes place in a cow-paddock) happens every year around January, when musicians from all over Australia gather at Girgarre in Victoria for a few days of jamming, workshops and walk-up performances, some of which happen on stage in the local Town Hall (it’s a very small, country town) and some of which, including performances by ad-hoc, ‘out of the hat’ bands, happen under a purpose built ‘sound-shell’ in the aforementioned cow-paddock, which is adjacent to the camp-site.

Tickets for the 3-4 day event, including camp-site fees and some meals are around $70… which is excellent value and I’d recommend it to musicians of all levels, both amateur and professional who just want a fun ‘getaway’ weekend of jamming and learning and meeting other musos… who get an excellent chance to ‘mix’n’match’.

Further information is available from the Girgarre Moosic Muster website… just Google it! 😀

  9. Here’s another Crack the Sky track from their first album. Struggled for airplay due to marketing reasons. See what you think.
