I just found this on Youtube and felt I had to share it immediately with my fellow piglets.
This little gem has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and, though there have been many imitators, there has sadly never been another Tony Capstick. Here is a link to perhaps his most famous piece, “Capstick Comes Home”, which must, one supposes, have been inspired by the unforgettable adverts for ‘Hovis’ brown bread, which used the plaintive tones of the flugel horn to romanticize the ‘Geordieness’ of the Northeast.
I do hope you will all enjoy this classically laconic piece of Geordie humour:
Wonder why the ladies don’t seem to like this…? Maybe that line about “throwin’ mi mam onto t’fire!”?

‘Don’t know they’re born today’, most don’t know they’re bloody well alive.
I seem to remember similar tales, crossing flooded creeks to school, shooting rabbits for dinner, but…we was rich, we could afford bullets.

I seem to remember actually LIVING similar tales, Big M… Walking at least three miles to school and then another three miles back through up to 3 feet of snow in winter; one winter whilst crossing a large frozen pond, the ice broke and I went through it. Fortunately the water was only a coupla feet deep, but it was still deep enough to get in over the top of my wellies. My legs were rubbed red raw by the time I got home! That white fluffy stuff looks all very pretty on christmas cards, but let me tell you it’s bloody lethal!
That’s why I flew ‘Over the Rainbow’ to the merry old Land of Oz… Winter’s aren’t nearly so bad here!
