Diana Krall, Lets’s Face The Music And Dance (Or is there something more we could do?)
Keywords: Edwin Starr, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Glen Campbell, Ronnie Burns, Robert Wyatt, Graham Nash, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, Yes, The Dead Kennedys, Phil Ochs, Noel Coward, Barry McGuire, Redgum, The Dixie Chicks, Pete Seeger, Donovan, Simon & Garfunkel, John Lennon, Diana Krall,

War! takes me back to the seventies. I had a girlfriend (in the old fashioned sense of the word) who got paid to dance in an Adelaide disco. Actually she was quite stubby and pretty average looking, but with big ones. Anyway …she dragged me to the disco one night and that was one of the things they played. A good song to showcase your disco dancing.
[ I was pretty clueless on the disco dance floor. Whatever.]

Voice, you have so many admirable qualities that you cannot dance is irrelevant 🙂

Another great selection, Warrigal, especially, ‘Question’, ‘Yours is No Disgrace’ and the ‘Eve of Destruction’… Donovan’s ‘Universal Soldier’ also made me a small fortune when I was busking… although in fact it wasn’t written by Donovan, but by Buffy St Marie…
🙂

I’ll throw this one in too.

Not strictly an ant- war song, though it was used as one during the Vietnam war.

Absolutely right Algy. The list isn’t complete without this track.

Where have all the flowers gone is nice, sung by Marlene , and Pete Seeger will do too.
Noel Coward was wonderful, his England was a different place to today’s chaos; ‘only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’ was not about looting…
Dire Straits, Simon and Garfunkel (but not this song), laconic Aussie Redgum, all cool, the others I still have to listen …leave them till tomorrow.
Ah, the lovely Diana Krall, we need more of those and we will have no more wars…

I was only 19, by Redgum. Beautifully sad..

Bye the bye, I did p;lay last weeks selection. I did it all in one go.
It was very moving really. I imagine that you (Warrigal) were being a bit reflective.
The only one that I truncated was The Corrs, although I do like them. that song was a toch Abba-ish. having said that I like Abba: who doesn’t.
I like the theme and sat enraptured.
I think that it must be harder to pick out those sort of numbers, since with rock, anything will do. But some love songs are tounge iin cheek and some are tear jerkers.
….
Just in case you missed it on The Dot Warrigal (I wouldn’t blame you, we had a bit of a rave up), I’ve booked tickets for Rod Stewart next Feb @ Brisbane.
As I’ve mentioned before I knew him way back, but have had no contact for…aprox…thinking..thinking..late 70s. However I plan to fire off an email to remind him. I might get a pic with a PIGS TEE 🙂

The Animals contribution here is right on with the theme. I couldn’t remember it until I started listening. Of Course Burdon had a band called War, I have it on vinyl, but not played it for years.
It must be great to be a popular musician and be able to get something of one’s chest, no matter what it is.
One would feel as if one had made a difference…A definite satisfaction.
Yes, I think any old excuse to put Diana Krall in 🙂

Yours is No Disgrace, classic, even Lord Funston will like that one but what’s this love affair with Diana Krall?

You’re spot on there HOO. Jon Anderson’s voice is divine. Jon & Vangelis is a fav of mine.
This track is fantastic, with Rick manically flinging his hair around (I’m guessing, cos there’s no video) and all that YES elements are there.
PS, got my new 5.1 sytem set up (yesterday), but most of my CDs..and ALL of my vinyl is in my lock up at Fort Knox. I went up there yesterday to collect a subwoofer that have had in storage: Australian made actually ….Anyway I took pity on a Yamaha subwoofer, that I also had (in storage)so decided to put them both in the same room.
The Accusound has a pre-amp out to link another subwoofer, so I ran a coax through the roof and back down a side wall, giving me double oomph. To be honest I’m not sure that it adds anything. I’ve tried it switch them off, alternately, and the difference is hardly perceptible. Oh well, I had them anyway.
Playing Warrigal’s selection on my PC, I have a TDK cube, that is a stereo (each side) and a small port at the back. It is powered of course, since the PC amp ASUS, is very basic. My son gave me tha cube as a birthday pressie about 2 years ago. It’s not great….but it’s adequate.
I’ve only just got the cube out of storage too, so I can give Warrigal’s selections more respect.
