The Dump

The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.

NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.

give a crap

———-

The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off.  Like a sack of prawn heads  in the sun.  Something had to be done.

Moderation was taking forever.  Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged.   When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !

So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit.  And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.

As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire.  And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.

So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog.  Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity.  Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.

And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments.  Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

Cheers,

Emm.

  1. Here is a ripper : “Mining billionaire Gina Rinehart has proposed a new way to broaden Australia’s tax base – allowing convicted criminals to buy their way out of jail.
In a column for Australian Resources and Investment magazine, Mrs Rinehart says the Government should consider letting non-violent offenders pay to get out of prison – or pay to avoid serving time altogether – because Australia needs more workers and taxpayers as the population ages.” and “In the column, entitled entitled ‘Learning from my Europe trip’, Mrs Rinehart – Australia’s richest person – suggests non-violent offenders who cannot afford to pay could agree to give up their voting rights or passport for a nominated period of time.”

So anyone who is in jail for tax fraud or evasion or a company collapse due to fraud etc, can pay to avoid jail and become a taxpayer !!! That is the lesson learned from visiting Texas, USA. If you can’t afford it you can give up voting rights and your passport !!!! This woman is totally nuts, bonkers. Ah yes, another Liberal wonder-mind working hard to make us all prosper, blah blah blah.

Independent forecaster Deloitte Access Economics, which was commissioned by the Government to evaluate the benefits high-speed broadband would bring to families, notes the NBN would help make the nation a “fully digital economy”.

These pricks (euphemistically called journos) don’t ask questions so that they may get an answer but solely for the purposes of then claiming that they had actually asked a question. Then they go ahead and write whatever bullshit their agenda dictates anyhow!
Media is utterly fearful that their cosy arrangement with this duopoly that calls itself “govn’t” is in danger of being disturbed by a real Left party.
They couldn’t give a stuff about all the other germs floating about the ballot papers because they’re also Right wingers, single issue and quite willing to make deals with them to get what they want: Let us shoot and we’ll give you sale of assets, for example.

I wish Rudd didn’t point his stupid hand or finger at people when he uses the word “you” as in, “…and I’m going to help YOU, get a job and I’m going to do my best to make sure YOUR child gets a good education and YOUR wife…”

If Abbott gets in, and it seems likely he will, Australia will again revert to the mean spirited visionless society they were under Howard, backwards looking and with their demolition of the environment in favour of dollar and obeisance to “market forces” a society bereft of much moral standing.
Anyone having watched both last night’s Abbotts 7,30 pm with Leigh Sales and then Q&A with Rudd and still voting Libs, must be of the same intelligence as Abbott. I am surprised that Australia is still so loath to move forward and accept that any government not for a ‘fair go’ for everyone should never be voted in.
Australia has become a selfish, racist and hopelessly materialistic society. They were not always like that.

Peter Hartcher – a journalist to be admired, I think wrote this today:

    http://www.theage.com.au/comment/fearful-leaders-cant-see-voters-seek-truth-20130902-2t10i.html

He probably sums things up correctly. And,more importantly, without the partisanship that you (plural) and I bring to the table.

Even though he is left wing, he seems to have been more openly analytical in the last few months.

Then,on another issue, which goes to the heart of ALP leadership, perhaps – “with an open mind”, you should glance at this…..http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/investigations/gillards-law-firm-files-seized-as-police-investigate-awu-slush-fund/story-fn6tcxar-1226709397416

Of course it would be easy to dismiss as a smear; however, I can’t see why Ross Mitchell, would have any other agenda than carrying out his duties.

I’ll not prejudge it, but taken in the context of Thomson, Obeid, Williamson ect, I think that you should look at the people that you employ to deliver your ‘core values’.

“Core values”, in modern Western Societies, are much the same. It’s just the delivery and execution methods that are different.

I guess that one could even use the terms funded and unfunded. Although listening to Keating the other day (somewhere) on ABC radio, he talked of (the Labor Party) being the dreamers. It was something that resonated with me, since all entrepreneurs have that dreaming instinct. Gambling if you like. With business it’s all about ideas and the excitement of doing things; growing things; employing the right people and building. Looking for opportunities – perhaps as Emmjay is in Indonesia?

Plus earning enough to pay the escalating bills: something that Rudd, doesn’t have to worry about!

Certainly Hartcher’s article sets out the problems fairly literately.

PS: I have written this in the context of your relentless vilification of The Boot. Purely in order to inject some sanity into the discussions. Which are normally…

Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
    No animal shall wear clothes.
No animal shall sleep in a bed.
    No animal shall drink alcohol.
No animal shall kill any other animal.
    All animals are equal.
    Then changed, marginally…

No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets.
No animal shall drink alcohol to excess.
No animal shall kill any other animal without cause.
    This of course morphs into..

… “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”, and “Four legs good, two legs better!”

…I have scrutinised The Boot, and decided that he is leadership material – and that Rudd is not. He wasn’t the first time, and he isn’t now. And on top of his hefty taxpayer funds, he is a multimillionaire, married to a multimillionaire.

Tony Abbott, is a hard working Australian, with a mortgage and sensible things to say about The Middle east Conflict. He’s the man we need.

Rudd, be gone back to your zillion dollar lifestyle and stop wasting our money.

NOW, I have tried to write, circumspectly and reasonably, without profanities. So I will not be replying to silly brain farts, such as Abooot has big ears and is a turd. Or, he hit the wall with his fist when he was 11 years old. Or nebulous, foolish babbling, like: “wake up Australia”! He is the preferred leader after all in all the polls ( I think). I can’t speak for hard-line left wing sites.

Let there be no doubt that he punched the wall next to a women’s head during his uni days. I know this because of people I know who where there. His brutality towards others was well known. He had others purger themselves to get off a sexual assault charge. He buried anyone who took civil action against him with a bevy of lawyers and a goon squad prepared to do anything for him. Furthermore his neighbours don’t speak to him due to the abuse. I can introduce you to people who’ll back all of this up.

  17. Though I was happy that Rudd explained his flip over the gay marriage thing in terms that a possible madman “pastor” could understand, I think he has insulted Democracy by not mentioning the core of its function: the separation of powers! After he explained his biblical reasoning, he should have emphasised far more effusively the fact that he is the head of a secular state and not a theocracy and his own theistic views are not worth a pinch of dog poo in the desert. If he wanted to preach Christianity, or Islam, or Judaism, he would have joined the appropriate organisation.
The Govn’t is not a religious temple.

His explanation on sending refugees to malaria infested tent cities was also bereft of compassion and completely erases what he says he feels about those who drowned. What is the point of saving people from drowning only to completely destroy them in a most malicious way by sending them off to various hells, no matter how gorgeous the vistas there.

These are people fleeing all sorts of fears, including that of death, torture, constant persecution. They hear that boats sink and yet the need for them to escape is so great that they risk the journey. They have no other choice!

I can’t believe that a civilised, well educated nation like ours can’t get get its collective political head together, expunge the shitty politics from the discussion and provide these people with some adequate shelter.

It really burns my brain when I think of these politicians who yell at the top of their voice, “what is the fundamental message of Christianity? It’s love your fellow man!” and then show nothing but hatred and disdain for that man!

I was impressed by Rudd’s performance, yes. But I was also saddened by it. He had missed a brilliant opportunity to show some moral determination and courage.

Abbott would not have gone beyond a quarter of those questions and by the time he got them done, the next question would have him puking with the intensity of the stress. Fuckwits like Abbott and that stunt pastor -imagine the damage he would reek in a school!- should be exposed for all they are: lethally dangerous!

    A small quote:
“Our infrastructure and services are groaning because neither party has the guts to pull the money out of middle class welfare and big business to fund public transport, renewable energy, decent pensions for the elderly, nurses and doctors and tertiary education that is accessible to all. Both of them prefer to spend billions and billions to keep a few thousand people from landing on our shores because it’s easier than having the fortitude to truly lead.
What a pathetic, useless, impotent bunch of sad little clowns we have to vote for. What a paltry, self-serving, small-minded business leading our country has become.”
