The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off. Like a sack of prawn heads in the sun. Something had to be done.
Moderation was taking forever. Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged. When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !
So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit. And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.
As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire. And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.
So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog. Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity. Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.
And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments. Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

How on earth does a party with 9 seats in an 89 seat parliament win 36 seats and win government. Looks like two one term governments being kicked out in two months. I saw that tory on the broadcast last night saying the same thing. Wayne Swan made her sound stupid. My Liberal mate said that the LNP would lose in Queensland at Christmas, I just couldn’t see how it would happen. He’s closer to the mark than I was. He also said that the LNP had polling suggesting 54-46 LNP, which they said just showed the quality of thei polling.

I posted a fairly neutral comment on the same thread, didn’t get up. Same with others this week. I share your frustrations about WS. He’s like a cracked record. Then if you criticise him he comes out with this mock disgust.
He and his right wing mates seem to go on with this right wing bias at The Drum. I tend to think its fairly balanced. Still they wouldn’t be satisfied unless they were all right wing blogs. The shouldn’t complain though Adolf this the fodder that just keeps giving even if they have to defend the indefensible.

There was an old lady (dead now) known to my Liberal mate and I in the 70’s and 80’s thought she was worthy of an honour, goodness know what for. A staunch member of the Liberal party they ended up organising for her to get a British Empire Medal (BEM) just to shut her up. She waltzed around the place saying she was …BEM not realising they were the go away medals. In England apparently you get an OBE for walking across the street.

Yes I see little point in these knighthoods. Seems you need to be a military person just to get one. Then again I see little point in these honours anyway. Same with “Australian of the Year” all a bit jingoistic to me. Sad this current one lost her son in dreadful circumstances and good for her for speaking out on domestic violence. Much to be admired, but “Australian of the Year”.
Also saw someone from England’s Antique Roadshow, has become an Australian citizen after visiting the country for 30 years. Seems like a great criteria to gain citizenship, just visit the country a few time over a period. I understand that $5m will buy you citizenship.

I didn’t want to sound ‘off’ but I didn’t think Rosie was a good choice and I didn’t think she should have been nominated to begin with – for a number of reasons.
Also, nice for Jackie French but she has only must made it into the Senior Cit ranks – 61 years old.
I’m not sure (in that I really have not decided) if all the Australian Day Awards of all kinds are any longer necessary. I don’t believe 26th January is Australia Day either. The day we become a republic is the only one. It got buggered up by Federation being the same day as New Year’s Day.

I knew of the early election in Queensland after meeting a friend at Christmas, very well connected in the LNP. I still think its a long bow to suggest that the LNP will lose in Qld but I could be wrong. I see that someone is also suing the boy lover. Should be interesting it will be a train wreck whatever happens. A lame duck government will be forced to an early election
The problem in Queensland is that we’re seeing Joh mark 2 with a generation who’ve never lived or see that.
Same in NSW I reckon the LNP will lose 17 seats. The connected friend suggests at least 20. Whatever happens will be little more than a correction. I can’t see Baird losing but will loose a significant amount of bark.
As for Adolf Turd well I can’t see him lasting 2015. Him or his government,

Pity – being on the Border we get NSW and Vic election result live during the evening. If it is on ABC Queensland I can use my satellite to tune in via the tele. But I do tend to have computer set on the electoral commission to get up dates – never as good as the TV though.

I just checked the TV program; ABC 24 News will broadcast Live from Brisbane: hosts Matt Wordsworth, Jessica van Vonderen and ABC Election Analyst, Antony Green. Joining them will be former Federal Treasurer (ALP) Wayne Swan and Queensland Treasurer (LNP), Tim Nicholls.

There’s a place where a Labor aligned clique gets together to talk about this place. The commentor most commonly posts as hph has been plugging it here these last few weeks.
From their comments there it seems the majority of their comments here are spiked. And they blame LNP/political right aligned moderators. Fascinating, to me, is that they also alternately: complain about the abuse they cop/crow about the abuse they manage to get up.
I think all you party cheerleaders need to take a look at your selves. I operate a heuristic: accusations of bias are admissions of bias.

I suspect most people who blog there get moderated, well except for Alfie, but then I think they feel sorry for him. I don’t think its bias just whose on the moderating on the day.I could have pointed out that I was trolled there on two occasions on that blog and that they failed to follow their own rules. for many weeks, however, a thank you and all the best seemed more appropriate.
