The Dump

The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.

NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.

give a crap

———-

The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off.  Like a sack of prawn heads  in the sun.  Something had to be done.

Moderation was taking forever.  Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged.   When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !

So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit.  And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.

As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire.  And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.

So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog.  Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity.  Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.

And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments.  Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

Cheers,

Emm.

Sorry, not good enough. The message needed to be sent and yet a limp lettuce approach means more of the same will occur throughout schools in Australia.

I thought it a bit light on. A former student at at Busselton Senior High ended up with a 4 month custodial sentence. The victim it turned out had bullied the perpetrator for a year before the perpetrator had had enough and laid into the victim but once on the ground went for the kill and started stomping on them. I think the sentence is appropriate in this case. what happened to the victim probably got off to bully again.

As for the Bega, student. I suspect expelled and needs to go to another high school in another town. The victim will wear what happened for the rest of their lives.

Did Nigel Evans get a look in ? I’ve been flat out Nurse Barbara – ing. Home from the PEG on Saturday and also got hernia fixed. Back to 6 feeds a day and constant to and fro. He’s not up and about yet. I had a few comments on Jericho’s piece and saw Algy popping up too.

6 feeds a day sounds a lot and are they gravity or pump?

My phone is now working. The saga continued. Today the technician arrived at 8.10 am and left 11.30 am. Finding the fault in the line – down the road. Finally hooked us up to new line (there are spares galore). Yay.

    • Great! We had no phone for over a week some years back because a technician had disconnected all of the lines at the street pillar. An older bloke picking up some extra shifts on the weekend fixed it in about an hour. Of course the f…wits in line faults couldn’t work out that a few hundred phones had faults within one street!

Been without phone for a week on previous occasions too. Ever since Telstra sold off getting things fixed has turn to shit. The call centre in India is basically useless for reporting faults. They don’t have enough staff. The guy who fixed it yesterday was from Sydney (Riverstone, or somewhere way out) seconded here for 4 weeks. The lines are falling apart but in this case just mine.

        • My eldest just went to India to do some teaching in his company’s call centre. He said it was a complete waste of time. The staff didn’t have the most fundamental idea about what they were doing. He sat in on some calls. processes like resetting a password, which only require a few key strokes took about twenty minutes. Unfortunately all call centres are overseas, so what do we expect?

Very interesting. The fault number is the same whether you have already reported it, have further probs and so on. They never sent me the priority customer form either (twice asked for). Talk to a computer to begin with, get told to go on line and trouble shoot and blah blah. No trouble shooting needed. Have to go through same old crap.

Techy rings at 8.30 am and says will check the exchange and I now have a constant hum and no phone but the internet is working (adsl) BUT – he can’t come to find problem because it is raining and will come when it stops, maybe. Just before noon the power line people come to check and say a couple of trees need lopping and my mobile rings while I am out front. Missed call from Techy. Not happy There’s more but I don’t want to bore people.

Still full on. Back to hospital on Tuesday to get PEG installed. Still hoping to eat normally but we’ve been set back nearly two months. He’s regained 2.5 kgs and the other day took the rid-on mower for a spin. He’s looking forward to Tour de France. I’m pretty good but have to admit to being a bit sick of the current routine. I barely have time to get to town to replenish the grog supplies and check out fish shop – do that and fill up with petrol and it’s time to be back home. I should have shares in our local chemist.

        • PEG’s are better than Naso-Gastric plus you can change them yourself at home. If they block try Coke a Cola. When I used to do PEG feeds for kids the parents told me that trick, talk to your district nurse first of course as I haven’t nursed for 5 years or so.
Good luck with everything and make sure Nurse Barbara gets a top up from time to time. We must look after the care givers.

I don’t expect hubby to manage it himself. We’ll see how it goes. We stuck with the nasal thing because hoped to pass the second x-ray video swallow. Didn’t but not long after he fell in a heap with this double ulcer bleeding. He nearly carked it. We’d been to the doc only days before he collapsed. He’ll be in hospital for three days and they’ll make sure we are comfortable and adept at the PEG feed. I’ve been doing the feeding since Easter Friday. We had to wait for his stomach to heal before the PEG could be done as well as get things back to ‘normal’. I was doing 6 small feeds a day and gradually increasing quantity and decreasing feeds. Lot of meds to administer (crush to powder and get in via syringe). I think I could write a how to – not all nurses have a clue about this and hospital docs are a bit ordinary. We’ve opted to stick with the second surgeon to do the PEG – he seemed to be very much in tune with my thinking.

    • Should have said “rectalfy”

In our final undergrad year at the uni farms we held a barbigrog which had a rodeo (no animals except the students) and a revue.

I rewrote the words of “California here we come” commenting on college food – Salmonella here we come. We were all wearing sack cloth and ashes and throughout the song the chorus members died one by one until just one of us was left standing to finish the song.

It was hilarious for everyone except the kitchen people 😊

Hubby has had a pretty rough trot the last two weeks. Long story short – he got a bleeding duodenal ulcer and gall. First it was clipped then another emergency trip when it all went pear shaped and he had major surgery. He’s got a lot of tubes going in and out of him but is making good recovery. In hospital for a while. Major setback of course.
