Going through all those boxes of collected remnants I found some pictures taken when, for brief period, I had made a dark room in our garage and mucked around with taking pictures and developing them.
Here are some of people that I used to see regularly when strolling through Sydney’s back streets on my way to Argyle Cut and a studio somewhere above it. Was it Harrison Str.?
I would not mind if some of you still remember these men in the pictures. This one is of a news paper seller. An unusual character, totally focussed on spotting the next customer. He was to be seen at the entrance to Botanical gardens or Hyde park, especially during those ‘concerts in the park’ events. Note his special bag and coin storer.
The second picture is of a more mysterious nature. For many years he was to be seen pushing a kind of large covered stroller. Perhaps it contained his whole world? Perhaps a refugee from Belsen or Auswitch, still unsure if the world had become a safer place. Perhaps a doctor whose qualifications were not recognized. Who knows?
The third picture gazing at the Opera House is of course from….?
And then an etching of a nude (woman), for some light relief.

Who modelled for the tits? But I do like it, lots.

No model for the tits. It’s all imagined, unbelievable isn’t it?
We often did have models at East Sydney Tech. I remember once a nude bloke, and something was glistening. Everyone kind of looked a bit puzzled. Did he have the drip? Turned out he had two rings through the end of his dick. This was years ago, well before rings became fashionable. It turned me off my bit of charcoal.

Why don’t you and MJ get together and develop a proper gallery page where the story art as well as your photos and superb lithographs can be displayed?
Do I detect just a hint, a soupcon of Dupain in those photos? I particularly like the superannuated newsboy.

Every bit of soupcon helps, Waz.

Are you sorting through your archives at the moment Gerard? Something that happens after a move, with the oldest box ending up on the top again…

Yes, you are right. I just found a box of lithographs I did many years ago at East Sydney Tech. They were kind enough to allow me the use of large stones and presses.
I suppose it is a bit selfish exposing them here on the P Arms’s but where else can I store them? This place is so much smaller than the farm where we had over 100 acres and plenty of shelves.
The picture of the old man and his cart still intrigues me. He seems content as if reflecting on something. His head askew in thought and with his beret I bet he is from some Eastern European country. Sturdy walking shoes as well.
Years go quickly now.

I think Warrigal’s right; it would be great to see your archive here, and doing it would also give you a chance to think of different uses for the work. It looks like you would have several different pages for aspects of your work.
For a while I thought the time and date stamp was indicating that you made the work that day. Wow, I thought. That’s speedy!

…looks like he’s sorting his Art-ives, and moving some of it to Pig’s-sty …

Someone fiddled with my camera and now all the pictures have a date. Those drawings and etchings were done many years ago when doing a certificate course in printmaking.
I am pleased you like them. I remember doing one of pears. Would you like to see it?

Actually I think there should be a shop, and some of the proceeds should go to the Pigs Arms, and that money could be a little foundation. For young people doing stuff. That would be cool.

Peter Garrett, head of the Pig’s Arms Foundation. I like it. Provided he hasn’t got into the habit of siphoning off foundation funds for expensive lunch meetings.
