Merv is my Publican,
I shall not want.
He pulleth me Bitter,
He restores my palate
He leadeth me to the Gents,
He restores my intoxication.
He makes me lie down,
In gutters grey.
Though, I may stagger home through the streets of Lewisham,
I fear no poofter bashing,
O’Hoo and Foodge, they comfort me.
Granny prepares a table before me,
Wedges, beans ‘n’ cackle berries.
She anoints me sausage roll with sauce.
My glass canoe overflows.
Surely Trotter’s Best shall fill me,
All the days of my life.
I shall drink in the Pigs Arms, forever.
Amen.
I wrote one for foodge, M. hasn’t come up yet.

I’m greatly honoured that the boss has seen fit to associate one of Lehan’s great works with my simple doggerel.
Thanks to my fellow patrons for their words of encouragement!

Well, for a moment I thought that it may have been the one close to civilisation, not far from Greenwich University where my son is now working. A colourful and salubrious London suburb, where one wouldn’t venture out after dark.
I suppose most British towns and suberbs are represented here. I forget sometimes. Apologies.

Yep, it’s the Inner West of Sidney one.
Don’t think the PA would fit the London scene, or, would it??

Big M;
Through a past reading of Looking Glass clearly the catalyst for this psalm so eloquently described in this writ of words. The child clearly coming to the fore and on the cusp of a totally new paradigm. This pure expression of a fondly held sausage encased in a roll ‘anointed’ indicating an almost Baudelaire adhesion to a future yet to be told and experienced.
Those words, oh those words, of walking through streets at dusk with not a hint of attacks by vegemite darkly or Milo lighly at Lewisham.
It’s wonderful.

Gosh, that’s nice Big M. 🙂
Lehan, I like the pub mirror. I am supposing it is one of those. Mm…gold leaf? I think perhaps it is that answer that was blowing in the wind. 🙂

This one is MY favourite ! But then anything funny is always a winner with me.
We might have to have a few categories, this would go into the humorous section…
We could have many winners like in the Alpaca Shows, or in the Kindergarten competitions 🙂

I like the two pages of gold leaf on the icon. They appear to glow “darkly” which is highly appropriate seeing as these are the days we see “as through a glass darkly”.
“The Glass Canoe” is often fondly remembered here at The Pigs. No doubt David Ireland is chuffed and the 23rd always looks good tricked out for a party.
