Always the sun – The Stranglers

Tears for fears, have a resonance here, Algy.
If I had to pick one band from here, it would be Simple Minds. Over The Stranglers.
‘Don’t you’. and ‘Belfast Child’. are bwilliant songs. They were a touch before T 4 F.
Jim Kerr had quite a stage presence.

I’ve always liked The Stranglers. That song especially.

I like The Stranglers too, Our trip to the west earlier in the year had a Stranglers greatest as one of the many albums to listen to. Great stuff! Oh and this one is one of may favourites.

Good list. I was in my ‘second’ prime*.
You almost got away with slipping the reels in. I listened – waiting for some recognition to be triggered – only to realise that I hadn’t heard it before. And never will again. They did try though 😉
*The one you have after the late teen one.

Another ripper list. Some real favourites here which one needs reminding of every now and then. The Reels – so good. Most of these here are catchy – all had that little special thing. Love it. To the best of my recollection you have still only missed one group which I adore – the Pointer Sisters – fair bit to choose from there! I’m so Excited, Jump, Slow Hand etc etc.

Well, the Pointer Sisters didn’t quite fit into the theme here vivienne, I’ll try and include something from them soon for you. I enjoyed putting this one together.

I didn’t mean to suggest they do fit into this list Algernon – not at all. Just thinking how clever you are to have listed so much good stuff but not yet touched on the Sisters stuff.

I have no problems with suggestions vivienne, in fact they fit in well with the next list I’m putting together. VL mentioned Tears for Fears which as he suggested I appear to have missed. A Mrs A fav there.

No, I didn’t think that you missed it. I was just making conversation. I think that with so few of us, it is only mannerly to make some comments. Good, or bad!
Actually, I think that some of the lists are too long. I hinted as much to Warrigal, once.
I try to comment. Otherwise your valiant efforts go unrewarded. But I would never seek to add or post a song.
I don’t want to rain on other’s parades 🙂

It was one I had considered though but I have posted them recently.
I don’t have a problem with songs being added if the theme is right. There have been times in the past though where some have gone overboard. Your comment on the length of lists is probably valid, often it depends how I’m going when preparing themm then feel I don’t want to cut back.

Gez has just informed me that Jimmy Little died today, I believe he was seventy five of age….
Driving home yesterday from Sydney we listened to 95.3, some good stuff , including Carole King, it made the trip feel shorter 🙂

Yes I saw that when I got home a wonderful man with a wonderful voice. A sad day indeed.
Heres a little something that probably fits in well here from him.

Great list here. I will listen tonight while I am doing some paper work. Thanks Algernon.

We need some distraction from all the on-line bickering…thanks alge, will be listening to your excellent choice two or three at the time….

The on-line bickering is OK, Helvi. It would happen in any pub.
My view is that I shouldn’t chip in and take side. Just put my view. And you should do the same.
gerad is big and ugly enough to defend himself 😉

VL and I don’t bicker. We just have differences of opinion on some things. Musically we’re on much the same wavelength I think.

Good list as usual from Algy. By the way, the ABC’s Drum editor has gone over to Radio. Let’s hope there might come a change to publish articles with more ‘heart’ and less politics. I could do with seeing less of Mr Peter Reith.

We might be lucky gerard, get rid of some of the rubbish that seems to be reworded each week then posted. Donnely is a classic example.

They are both terrific reads. The should come with a disclaimer, ‘No new words were used in the writing of this essay.’
