Excellent read there Emm. For Ardern, she chose the time of her departure, a rare thing for a leader. She seems to have suffered the same amount of misogyny, abuse, lies etc. the Julia Gillard did. Strange given that she wasn’t the first female PM in NZ.
Its been a tough 5 years for her though, the massacre, COVID, the volcanic eruption, more than most leaders would have to put up with.
I’ve listened to some of the NZ press which I’m now choosing to ignore as they seem to have a Nationals bent. The Nationals there are like the Liberals here, nothing more than a skid mark in the underpants of History. They seem to buy the manure truck of story telling they serve up. I heard an academic in political science give a better view this morning. Sure Labor won’t have a majority at the next election, the exception rather than the norm there, the polling is also around 10% higher than the lies the Nationals are spruiking as well.
In the end I guess the threats against her and her family were too much, she’s only human. Nobody, politicians included from all sides should have to put up with the bottom feeders hurling it at you.
