The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off. Like a sack of prawn heads in the sun. Something had to be done.
Moderation was taking forever. Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged. When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !
So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit. And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.
As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire. And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.
So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog. Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity. Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.
And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments. Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

I’ve been having some great fun over at the Drum lately when it works which seems pretty rare. Julian is such great fun it is hard to resist. I have tried to post some positive stuff to Gez and Helvi’s comment but they never get up.
I use different psuedos all the time now as Hung was banished given my rejection of gay marriage but Miowarra is simply lamb for the slaughter on that one. Good to see atomou chiming in from time to time. Stuffed Olive and Algernon usually say how I feel along with my all time favourite in Helvi. Don’t see Astyages or Cynicure there any more which is a bit of a shame as Dave usually hits the nail on the head with his comments.

If you tell us, here, beforehand, I won’t hit the reply button at The Drum quickly with a toxic message. The other day I made this mistake to tc21 (or tif21 I can’t remember now.) Later on I found out he is also against Conservatives. …well at least that’s the impression I got from his comments.
And, yes, Astyages’ comments are spot on.
But most importantly…
I wish Atomou hadn’t made that comment to Gerard, below. Gerard is a good man with a good heart. So is Atomou. I hope they will get together and try to smooth things out in the future.

I know the feeling Vivienne. Fridays at The Drum are a waste of time. Best to post early in the morning on Fridays and then do something else and come back to it in the evening and read the comments. There is no chance to reply to other comments on Fridays after 12 noon.
Couple of my comments did not appear here at The Dump either. I think they went to the spam section because of their unusual style!

Pretty much what I do on a Friday. I do tend to check everynow and then and always see that nothing has happened. Knock off work and then on Saturday morning see lots of stuff posted as well as some new article which received a couple of comments and then closed. What a waste.

I put in a complaint to the ABC about Akereman on Insiders – about what he said on a program a couple of months ago. They defended him and said it met the criteria. I was supposed to complain to the Insiders site. I argued with them to no avail but at least I got replies. Their criteria is crazy.

I completely agree. But there is no need to be so polite hph. Sattler was similar to Jones with his berating the PM for being late (a few minutes) and telling her how busy he was etc. I know that they would never say these things to a man. This total and complete lack of respect is beyond politics, it is their not accepting a female PM. Julia Gillard’s patience is astonishing. I’d have walked out on both of them. But she must know now to never go near any of them again – should not have in the first place frankly.

Hi all you Piglets. Last week someone wrote a post using my name “helvi”,rather unpleasant I must say. I complained and the post disappeared. Even so , this nasty person wrote another one using my name. I replied, and so did Gerard. They did not take it away, but put my post on the soapbox for all to see what this troll was doing.
Today I had a nice e-mail from the Drum team, saying how sorry they were that this fake helvi post was published. They also thanked me taking part in the discussion. That was rather nice 🙂

Reading Jonathan Green’s article on the Drum was one thing but then so many of the comments made me sick. What an example of what we might be in for with the Libs running amok with power. Id made a beautiful comment which I read this morning (comments closed). Yesterday I decided I just couldn’t comment, i.e. what was the point of jumping in amongst all that hate and ignorance.

Thank goodness we have here vivenne. I’ve been a bit light on but get the odd one up. There was one there yesterday with Big ears McMahon, the uncanny resemblance to Adolf Turd got me.
I note today that another case were Adolf had to front the courts because of his violent behaviour, where he turned up with a bevy of lawyers and his goon squad. He did the same with the sexual assault case which folded the same way. More and more of these stories are surfacing and entirely consistent with the Adolf I was aware of. I can only hope that a deluge of these come to light in the coming weeks.

Helvi, I saw DocMercury couple of times at the Drum last fortnight and then he disappeared again! When I responded to his comments, my replies did not get past the moderator!

hph, I saw one by him, I was hoping he would stay as I always enjoyed his ‘mercurial’ posts, but I did not reply…maybe the Mods were grumpy that day if not even your civil replies not got up.. 🙂
I think it was Sea Mendes or one of other aliases, who wrote underneath my post calling someone (me) ‘nordi’…Nordic?

Yes it happened to me a lot of times as well, and it is not fair when you are not given the opportunity to respond to the offender – however civil your language is in your post. …I missed that bit by mandez.
I wanted to say “hello and good to see you here Doc” etc. but it didn’t show up! This is weird!

And, I might just add that I sometimes suspect our ‘Persecuted’ of being Julian too… in disguise… His eagerness to underline the merest suggestion that WS is ‘ahead of his time’ also adds to this suspicion…

For some excellent reminders on the history of shitface Abbott do go, if you don’t already, to Independent Australia. Its latest piece on politics is just the stuff you need if you are stuck for words. It covers everything on Abbott as the lying, sneaky bastard he is, starting with his ghastly appearance at the Press Club replete with masses of make up, hair touched up and suggestions of botox. I saw him and thought he looked very odd.

There is a possibility that the Tories will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. All their policies if you can call them that are falling flat. Windbag joes pathetic effort at the press club is having many serious economists question his ability. Gonski has the ability of blowing up in the Tories face as well. Piccoli in NSW is contradicting Poodles, it could play well for Labor in the NSW marginals. The real question though are the punters listening.
