The Dump

The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.

NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.

give a crap

———-

The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off.  Like a sack of prawn heads  in the sun.  Something had to be done.

Moderation was taking forever.  Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged.   When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !

So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit.  And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.

As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire.  And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.

So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog.  Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity.  Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.

And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments.  Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

Cheers,

Emm.

A valid question under the circumstances and whose irony escaped many commenters.
Although I was surprised by this article (highlighting free speech as a fundamental human right in oil-rich kingdoms), I still feel it falls short of the mark, which is really human rights for women, no mention of how women are treated badly in these countries, mentally and physically.

Islam is a race not a religion. Muselim is the religion and as far as I know not every Islamic person is a muselim. So with that being said, all organised faith based religion should be open to criticism, scepticism and we should be encouraging open dialogue of all religions. You should not however, critise someone for their race as this cannot be helped and is racism. So no one is being anti-Islam, just anti Muslims, it’s a completely different thing – religions cause nothing but wars, evoke unnessesary fear & repress women all around the world. I’m an athiest and I can’t remember the last time someone was shot, stoned, beheded, killed, raped or jailed by an athiest group. Just a thought.

I was told last week they have internal polling that suggests that they think the have a 54-46 lead which flies in the face of all other polls. 02 Jan 2015 12:09:40pm

The most solid and enduring policy in Australian politics has been to give the other bastards a go. Abbott, the most nothingy no-one in our political history, has won office, guaranteed pension rights, future largesse in boards and appointments from patrons and a place (low) in books. Now that people realise they voted for an enemy, patronized by a foreign, ex-patriate tax-bludging media wart of a soul, they’ll go looking for sense and progress, lacking now in Abbottism. There’s something stinking and revolting about a pre-1945 attitude built on superstition, fantasy and downright lies.

  22. What is the Carlyle Group? Who are the people behind the name? And how much power does Carlyle have?

48 minute documentary about the depth of corruption and deceit within the highest ranks of U.S. government.

This program was broadcast on VPRO Netherlands TV.

(there is a space after the dot)
    www. youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Tqb7Wf_KCG8

Note: The first one minute forty seven seconds of this program is in broadcast in Dutch, The remainder is in English.

Translation of the first one minute forty seven seconds of this program:

“The war in Iraq does not seem to be over al all, but in the meantime the rebuilding has already started. This has unleashed fierce competition for contracts, which are mainly awarded to American (ed: U.S.) companies.

What is remarkable about these companies, is that they have people on their payroll from American politics and the military. Is this a conflict of interest, or is this the new global way of doing business?

[text in the screen at this time reads: ‘the iron triangle’]

One of the companies that operates in this manner is the Carlyle Group.”

On their payroll are people like : George Bush (Sr.), James Baker III and old premier John Major.

The Carlyle Group is a private investment bank which doesn’t come to the publics attention very often but it is one of the biggest American (ed: USA) investors of the defense industry, telecom, property and financial services.
