The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.
NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.
———-
The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off. Like a sack of prawn heads in the sun. Something had to be done.
Moderation was taking forever. Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged. When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !
So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit. And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.
As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire. And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.
So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog. Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity. Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.
And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments. Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.
Cheers,
Emm.

“Canada, attracted teachers from The UK.
I know this first hand, as two of my close relatives were invited, and they ended up as high as you can go (without me giving details). They were the cream of the crop from British Universities.
My wife is an educator here in Oz, and has often made the observation, that the teachers are not as educated.
OK, you can have a go at me if’ you like, but I guess the truth hurts.”
No points for which pie cart owner put this up during the week. I’m amazed he didn’t put up that he thought he’d earned a Master’s Degree as he’d helped his wife with hers. I suspect though that its one of those inferior Australian ones, nowhere near as good as one of those from the cream of British Universities.

Will head down to the small local shops soon. The one legged arse kicker has designated it the shopping centre of the month and will be down there annoying the shoppers, last week the young Liberals who were helping him stood there like stunned mullets. He hasn’t shopped there in five years according to the shop owners. He walked in recently to the shop the younger is working and asked don’t you know who I am. She replied no wouldn’t have a clue. The language from the butchers was the bluest I’ve ever heard regarding him.

If I’d seen that comment I might well have added that those UK teachers probably benefited by being taught by the best Aussie teachers in the UK. I’m closely related to one and on an on-line message he found out he was still highly regarded by many of his students as the best teacher they ever had. They also remarked on how well dressed he was.

He wouldn’t have liked that. But the British think that Australian teachers are a cut above the local crop. They also are worried about the potential of the 35000 pound rule becoming law as well for those who want to stay on. The Elder is thinking of going to England and Europe, for a bit in a few years time and even though she qualifies for an Ancestry Visa she may be affected by the rule.
I might add that his wife works in a private school on the Gold Coast. My friend on the Gold Coast was scathing generally about the quality of the teaching their children received in Private Education there. They thought the standard was well below what they’d experienced in the public system here.
So as usual his bum and his mouth were in tune.

We put in a new big air con unit as wood stove was starting to fall apart and that timing was fortunate as I could not chop or lug firewood anymore (my job). Love just pushing a button. I’m amazed at the amount of time and effort that goes into selecting someone to represent people who spend every waking moment complaining to anyone who will listen about how they’re being ignored by Canberra.
The “bush” is wasted as a place to grow food and taking dogs for rides in the back of a ute – a massive tarpaulin thrown over the lot, a handful of dancing bears and some clowns riding quad bikes with three of the wheels removed, and you have potentially the greatest tourist attraction this country has ever produced.

If you’re thanking people for the food on that table of yours there’s a good chance that you’ll need to include more than a couple of Chinaman and the odd South-East Asian or two.
And also the unionised labour that off-loaded it from the ship.
The Australian produce which is on your plate and down your front was probably just the stuff the locals couldn’t flog-off overseas – by rights, they probably should be thanking you.

They also use equipment they stopped using here 20 years ago. Zaky was completely oblivious to the WHS issues here and thought the coppers here might be smart and pass the test unit through the passenger side.

Time and again many posters on the Drum have pointed to where the money is to found. Programs don’t have to be cut but subsidies like Negative Gearing, CGF 50% discount, superannuation perks for the well off who can avoid paying correct tax and pay 15% instead, ditch the faux Direct Action, close off shore detention, sort out companies turning over billions but apparently incapable of making a profit. Sea Monster, the deficit can be wiped out quickly if the Liberals stop looking after their business mates and stop allowing the IPA to write the agenda. And then there are the billions wasted on provided a complete ballsup of an NBN.
Reply Alert moderator
Sea Monster:
31 Mar 2016 1:50:04pm
Time and time here on The Drum I have advocated cutting tax expenditures like negative gearing. But that’s not my point.
My point is that people will resist the change. And even then debt deficit will grow while the change takes effect.
Saying “the deficit grew under Liberals” is just as meaningless as saying “interest rates were higher under Labor”. Both fail to take the complexity of the matter into account.
They confuse coincidence with cause.
Reply Alert moderator
Jean Oliver:
31 Mar 2016 4:08:43pm
Who are these people who resist change Sea Monster? It is the Liberal Government doing all the resisting. Then Turnbull slings out his brainfart of States taxing income and then according to my calculations getting no more money because the Feds cease their grants. Then to top it off says no more money for public schools but of course we will continue to give Billions to the private schools. Saying how much the deficit has grown under the Liberals for the last 2.5 years is not meaningless at all, not when they campaigned on the ‘debt and deficit disaster’ which they were going to fix in their first year. I won’t give them an inch of sympathy while they never did the same for Labor claiming all Labor’s spending to save us from the worst of the GFC was reckless and that it was all waste and just school halls and dead people (pink batts). I think the Libs are in fact gutless and ignorant morons. So don’t talk to me about taking ‘complexity of the matter into account’.
