The Dump

The Dump is:
For posting comments that don’t get up at the Drum, and for having a pleasant, mirthful or enlightening off-topic discussion.
It’s not for personal abuse of other commenters.
Please do that somewhere else if you must.
Play nicely or piss off.
However, why doesn’t a poster add a link for us to read and comment on here, much quicker. Maybe we can do a bit more bagging here, not that I speak for the moderators, yet.

NB: Being tiresome and boring, racist, sexist or just plain creepy is not playing nicely.

give a crap

———-

The Pig’s Arms exists because a dozen or so years ago our other favourite playpen – the ABC’s Unleashed blogsphere started to go off.  Like a sack of prawn heads  in the sun.  Something had to be done.

Moderation was taking forever.  Comments seemed to be rejected randomly – outrageous ones appeared and reasoned ones were pinged.   When they released the Drum / Unleashed ….. things actually got worse !

So many pieces from professional writers appear with no obvious merit.  And the moderation has become, to put it frankly, appalling.

As a former contributor and a commenter, I was deeply disappointed at the plummeting quality from our pre-eminent media empire.  And I resented so many challenging or dare I say, witty or funny posts in which we’ve invested seconds of our precious time – getting the chop.

So here, for all our benefit – is an open slather blog.  Copy and paste your best rejected comments here for posterity.  Does not matter whether you’re posting on the Guardian, First Dog on the Moon or wherever else.

And sprinkle pointers to the Pig’s Arms amongst your comments.  Let’s try to rescue some of the old faithful.

Cheers,

Emm.

And did you read this? The xenophobes and nationalists did not win as predicted. We can all sigh with relief. Let’s hope Hanson will get a similar treatment, but I doubt it.

In Australia pensions are means tested and cut, the queues are getting longer, the neglect of the disabled, industries are fleeing, electricity is dropping out. The young can’t get jobs. We are stumbling badly.

This is the climate perfect for xenophobia and fear of the foreign and Islam, for the extreme right to rear its ugly head.

I can comment no trouble. I simply enter my email and my name ‘sandshoe’ and I’m in.

WordPress says that without remembering my password I have to have the original email address I used to open the account with them and my sign on letter. I no longer have it because it was on a contract with iPrimus I long ago had to relinquish, not realising. Aside makes no sense to me.

Same, for the avatar, don’t know what happened to it, only way to get an avatar up and running is to be able to sign into WordPress and WordPress tells me create a new account as I cannot recall the password and no longer have the original email address.

I don’t want to do that. I cannot lose ‘Sandshoe’. Hence I’m in a holding pattern, no avatar and can’t ‘Like’. Beats me, Viv, believe me.

Hi Mark. Thank you for the link. I think I worked out earlier today that was where i needed to be at gravatar.com and then I cannot log in to Word Press because I cannot remember the password.

I’ve tried and tried. I think I have made some progress in that I remembered perhaps it was a yahoo address that I used and that seems to be confirmed because I never get thrown off abruptly trying to log in when I try using a yahoo.com address, and as well get asked if i can access an email that appears although partly obscured to be the very iprimus email I cannot access because it is no longer an email address of mine. It is entirely circular and I end up in the same place, Mark. I was told they will send me an account key but when they do it goes to an old telephone number I think. Just going round and round.

I might have to end up creating a new one. Thank you for your help everybody. Fortunate for you you remembered it Vivienne. I had all mine written down in notebooks i never imagined i would need again and shredded them. Drat.

        • When I was in London in the 80’s, I enjoyed an ale at a Pub called the John Snow where a couple of friends worked. One of them was going out with a copper who worked at West End Central and slept at the sleep house by the same name which was just across the square from the pub. In the square was a men’s convenience. It was often frequented by males of a certain age according to the copper. The parrot was arrested for allegedly committing an act of outrageous gross indecency. The case was eventually dropped after intervention by several high powered people. He was also a school teacher who was asked to resign from two private schools.

Jones made these comments about Julia Gillard, “Jones told a Sydney University Liberal Club function 10 days ago that Ms Gillard’s father, John, died of shame because of the lies his daughter had told.

The function also featured an auction of a jacket made from a chaff bag. Previously, Jones said Ms Gillard should be tied in a chaff bag, taken to sea and dumped.”

The article was about the residents of the Toaster complaining about outdoor concerts at the Opera House, Outdoor concerts are part of the design. These cashed up residents of which the parrot is one are complaining about the noise of the concerts. They also complain about the noise flag poles make, what next the noise of the ferries.

Someone made this comment. “Perhaps a “concerned citizens” group needs to be formed to move the wowsers on from the Toaster.

Then move the Toaster on from Circular Quay … and into the harbour.

Actually, leave the Parrot in there.”

I replied “In a chaff bag perhaps”

Thank you, algernon. Comprehensive. I see. ‘In a chaff bag perhaps’ being evocation to that Happy Days episode. I’ve always wondered what drives him. I am very surprised he is complaining about the outdoor concerts. Music venues and promotions are a life blood of his industry aside his gabble fests woooden you think.

I know the concerts to be an institution and my niece commented to me once she was walking down Pitt Street listening to the music and there was a drum solo. It was the first time she realised her brother’s drumming was big. It was echoing through the canyons. That predates The Toaster.

Silly gooses. What did they expect. They can line their walls with egg cartons. They help.

Algernon has known this for some time but when you see my posts getting a bit whacky that means I have fallen on the wayside. The Ace is able to read me like a book and he can see the train wreck coming.

Tutu came and saw me recently from Adelaide however I was arrested at Canberra Airport for drink driving. I will now have to deal with that. Tutu and I still care for each other even though we separated in 2010. Tutu can no longer live with me after a tumultuous life together. I do not blame her.

I told Shoe, who I’m sure is my twin just much nicer looking, about what happened but I feel that I need all of you to know where I’m at. As they say in AA one day at a time.

I cherish you all as friends even though I know I will never meet most of you and the creative writing I do when I get that urge is really good for my rehabilitation, Merv, Sandy and Hung and Co.

    Sincere regards

        • Still practicing I see. Keep the fiction up.

Trump put in US$66m of his own money into the presidential campaign. And more if you include getting the nomination. His wealth which you dismiss is US$3.7b according to Forbes. Owns US$2.1b in New York in property. True the Democrats spent double what the Republicans did.

As for Obama he was handed the hospital pass with the GFC. Who was responsible well that would be GW Bush. They could have gone down the republican path like they did in the Great Depression much like the UAP did here and throw everybody on the scrap heap or unemployment at 30% plus but they didn’t.

Why didn’t the Liberals have any money to spend well the NSW branch of the party with ICAC finding 10 sitting members corrupt with their shonky money laundering. Over $4m in funding held off from them as a result. So with Waffles throwing in $1.75m he basically saved their campaign. Well enough for them to have a one seat majority. In essence he bought them a win.

As for Obeid he can rot in jail. Lets see the ill gotten gains of him and his family stripped.

Whenever I hear a speech delivered by this idiot I immediately think of the following:

“During a recitation by their poet master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem “Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning”, four of the audience members died of internal hemorrhaging and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived only by gnawing one of his own legs off. Grunthos was reported to have been “disappointed” by the poem’s reception, and was about to embark on a reading of his 12-book epic entitled “My Favourite Bathtime Gurgles” when his own large intestine – in a desperate attempt to save life itself – leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain.”

    • I thought of the opera singer, Anna Russell turned comedic one-woman show who was responsible for, ostensibly more drunken as she went along, a famous speech to the Ladies (Gilbert & Sullivan I think) fan club in which she said she had been asked to talk about turning discarded dresses/clothes into patchwork curtains/bedspreads and how to turn patchwork curtains back into clothing.

From Wikipedia: She received the Canadian Women’s Press Club Award in 1956 as the best Canadian comedy writer of the year. Giving advice on how to be a successful singer, she quipped that although a glorious voice was important, “it helps to be an independently wealthy, politically motivated, back-stabbing bitch.”

I think that about Turnbull’s performances at the Press Club, that he might as well be providing some tit bits of information for the despairing how to put up with him and what he has done, he is such a shallow, out of touch, egocentric excuse of a leader of anything, nothing. 😦

  24. Calling in to say g’day. I

‘m caught up in a project for a few days in my yard with a couple of helpers. I was offered a trailer to fill too for a few days and to dump green waste. We’re going to the dump for a second time this afternoon so I’m in work boots. All good at my place. See you soon.
