I’m not sure which Ry Cooder LPs (vinyl) I own. As they’re all in a box, amongst boxes.

Good one Emmjay, I thank Ry Gooder for introducing me to the funky but very refined Cuban music. All those lovely old musicians; the pianist Ruben Conzalez, the sweet Ibrahim Ferrier, Orlando Lopez…
Love them all and I feel like embracing them all (very loosely paraphrased ) 🙂

Thanks Emmjay, loved it!
Ry is the master if bringing obscure (to us Westerners) music into the mainstream. I think he said it all near the end, something about being brought up to think of Mexicans as second class people, but, now, I’ve listened to their music I want to embrace them (very loosely paraphrased!)
Another album for me to chase down.

Glad you like it, Big M.
I really enjoy Ry Cooder’s music. Have done since school. One of my favourites is his collaboration with VM Bhatt – Ganges Delta Blues – magnificent. I also appreciate his collaboration with Gabby Pahinui and Atta Isaacs – slack key Hawaiian guitars. Liquid gold !

I think my favourite is “Jazz’, which I have on vinyl. Gotta make some time to install a new motor in my turntable (in spite of my rave about networked music on your other story)!

SO do I ! I bought a copy of “Jazz” on vinyl in the UK in the 1980s. I also bought a copy on CD in the 1990s. “Big Bad Bill is Sweet William Now” – funky, lolling along like a Red Setter in spats.
I know certain Pig’s patrons will think I’m joking but I recently bought an Akai USB turntable new for $100 because the first mate has a few hundred LPs to digitise and the old Pioneer ain’t what she used to be. rumble and hiss, slack rubber belt, expensive new stylus required
A job in waiting, Big M.
Some might say that I must be crazy. There are easier ways to get the collection digitised (some even legal). But I think half the pleasure is running the old LPs through the fingers and past the lugs and reminiscing about life when the covers were crisp and new.

Emmjay, sounds like a great idea. There are plenty of phono amps, with AD converters, around, but the Akai will probably do the trick. There’s plenty of jiggery-pokery involved in this, so, good luck!!
