THE PIG’S ARMS IS MY WATERING HOLE
The Pig’s Arms is my watering hole,
I shall not thirst;
Emmjay makes me submit green manuscripts.
Shoe leads me beyond sweet poetry;
Warrigal restores my soul.
Atamou leads me in paths of classical righteousness
for Theseustoo, Gerard and Helvi’s name’s sake.
Yea, though I travel through the valleys
of Nairobi and through space, time and alternate realities,
I fear no submission;
for Nev is with me;
Hung’s wit and Viv’s recipes, they comfort me.
Surely Voice, Big M, Lehan, Astages, Gregor and Julian shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the
famous pink drinks and Trotter’s ale forever.

I made “post more blogs” one of my new year resolutions…I’ve been writing 5+ hours a day at work for the past few months and pulling out computer at nights and weekends hasn’t been too appealing. But, things are finally slowing down and I really must get back to it. Thanks for posting this one…Psalm 23 was the favorite from my boarding school days as well. cheers everyone! nev

For nostalgic reasons, I have enjoyed this the most. Although it is a perverse enjoyment, since it is a reminder of my boarding school days, when we had to walk to church twice on Sundays , when most of us would rather have been playing cricket or football.
The 23rd psalm is one of my favourite, which stems from my choir-boy days. However you have based your witty psalm on the spoken version and I have a fondness for the hymn (version), which has the words arranged in a different order. There are different words in the musical version- to fit into the melody I suppose. Or syntax as atomou mentioned elsewhere!
We need a YouTube Pigs’ version.

BTW, I have dispensed with the notification interruptus-as it was just too much before-so it takes me a while to check who has written what. it is laborious, but has the advantage of being able to shut off completely, without feeling the need to see the comments. You may remember that my email is linked to my mobile throughan SMS from Mymail at telstra. I need a breather a ce moment.

OK seen that now. Didn’t Herbert wotisname have sommething to do with Blake’s poem.? Or was that something else. I was thinking ttah he wrote the music to it. Jerusalem, I mean.

Have you stuck with the no-alchohol breathers? (Just being nosy).

I can’t answer your Herbert Howells question. But I must send my son’s old choirmaster a link to this psalm. He would have a good laugh.

Having a back and forth on Skype at the same time as posting to you. Not by video, but in the message box at the bottom. like the little faces and symbols. They add a bit to the conversation, if one doesn’t overdo it. They have names, which helps if one can’t figure out whether it is a grimace or a smile.
My pal is in NZ for two months holiday (he travels a lot and has a KIWI wife). I went around to his house yesterday and borrowed his DVD recorder, but was having trouble with the cables, getting them mixed up with Austar and the VCR/CD/DVD combo. So we were just having a written conversation. It’s faster than email. And we didn’t want to see each other:and argue about oit probably.
So now you know the lot.

It was Hubert Parry who wrote the music to Blake’s poem.
I should have known that. Bottom of the class for me!

I particularly like the idea you are beside yourself, Neville. You’ll get more done that way. 🙂

You are making this very hard; every time a new psalm pops up I’ll say; this one is the winner.
As I said before it has to be a kindi -style competition, and each and everyone will be getting the First Prize!
Love the painting, soo much beauty there…
