Computers: don’t ya just hate em sometimes?
Iv’e gotta write all this again, and I can’t remember exactly the way I had done it. Windows vista is a wank!
Anyway, ‘Both Sides Now’, sounded great on the organ, at Winchester Catholic Church, the day that I got married and is a song that I often find myself humming. It was much loved then and Judy definitely sang the best version. Love Jackson Brown too. Always think of him as never reaching his full potential, despite his being responsible for a couple of ‘gold’ standards . I love his version of ‘Stay’. He’s a bit of an enigma to me: sort of allooof, but in touch with ‘Gaia’. I Don’t know Goanna, but am an ardent Hendrix buff. Wore my vinyls out (still got’em though).
Blood sweat and Tears: Mmmm Majorca 1969. I’ll say no more.
And then ..And the coloured girls go Doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo..
Yes a good selection Warrigal. I ahve good memories of some of the others too (even that odd little prick Mick Hucknall).
It never ceases to amaze me how a new tune can show up–and sound original–but it does, and often bursts like sherbet on a taste bud!

I think that Jayell wanted to write about Sandy Denny, but ran out of short term memory. That includes Marvin Gaye another enigma.

Sandy’s husband Trevor produced the Goanna album. Little bit of Goanna/Denny/Lucas trivia for you there.

Mick Huknall is a little odd it’s true. He has significant talent and yet still he’s a self absorbed show pony. But then what else would you expect from a close personal friend of Tony Blair?

Yes, odd. Picture Book was one of the first CD’s available (remember Dire Straits’ Money for Nothin’ ?). I think his sales success had a lot to do with being in the right media at the right time. Picture Book – not a bad album, but not a desert Island pick either.

On a tangent, but meaning well, Jules. After hanging out with the techos at my favourite client, they convinced me to upgrade from the ultra crapulous Vista to Windows 7. If you have a dual core processor and two or more gigs of memory (4 is ideal), I’d support their contention that it’s worth the money to get shot of Vista.
I agree about Jackson Brown. He has a “greatest Hits” album on CD that is excellent. Stay – particularly good.

I saw Harry Chapin at the Regent (before they pulled it down) in the late 70s I think. It was a matinee concert with another following. Great concert, hes seemd to be enjoying it so much that he didn’t keep track of the time. The concert well it wend nearly 30 minutes into the next one.
Nice selection Waz enjoyed it very much.

I never saw Harry Chapin live but his album “Verities and Balderdash” would be amongst my desert island collection. He had such a fond and compassionate take on the human condition. The whole album so rings with human “verities” that it’s hard to find the “balderdash”.

I like Diana Krall, but could not listen to it at Pigs.

That’s way beyond my remit I’m afraid. And I can only assume that it’s going to get worse as copyright owners try to get a grip on the global unauthorised us of their copyrights.
At the moment both EMI and SONY have disallowed certain copyrights under their control to be posted on YouTube which leads sometimes to the ludicrous situation of watching second rate amateur vision to a silent backing track.

Yes, the embedded issues and allowing pop-ups makes it all the worth while when one gets there finally. Mr Cash does it for me. Not a straight line in his face.
Thanks Waz.

correction … which led me to … The thing is that the songs and music of the 60s and 70s were so good – sing to them, dance to them. Midnight Oil best since then – great songwriting.

In today’s Spectrum section of the SMH there is an article on Iggy Pop which me to check him out on YouTube. The last time I saw him on the tele he was doing a concert and he’d unzipped his pants and had his dick on show for ages (playing with it too). Long before that I recalled his Chairman of the Bored. Through YouTube I have gone back to his early days and then on to the Kinks’ All day and all of the night. Great stuff though I still love Goanna heaps.

I was in Goanna Manor the day that clip was shot. They were heady days as the “Spirit of Place” album rode up the charts and “Solid Rock” was first claiming its permanent place in the pantheon of deathless Australian popular music. A very deserving place too.
Shane can still be found touring the folk festivals and other acoustic music venues as well as the occasional Goanna outing . He’s recorded solidly since then and there is now an extensive back catalogue that goes well beyond Goanna. You should look it up.
