Have a squiz at this Warrigal. For some reason, I think that you could be interested. You come across as a techno/techy/petrol head.

Got through some of these tonight while I’ve been checking my mail.
Fantastic collection. Some I would have liked to have chosen myself, but would probably not remembered easily. That’s a huge bonus, because they are really sunk in the recess of my addled memory.
In other words I would just simply have never remembered them. Marmalade & tin soldier are in that category…Love the two girls dancing in The Tremeloes clip, with a girl in hot-pants laughing.
I remember when the first Sanatana LP came out. What a stir, it caused.
All good

Left the girls until last. Suprised Waz, you didn’t include something by Helen Shapiro.

That’s is my favourite Helen Shapiro tune, and I have posted this very clip before my dear Algy; but I’m glad you’ve thrown it in again today. I just can’t get enough of Helen Shapiro.
So how about this. Another Carole King Jerry Goffin classic.

I don’t know about you two, Waz and Alge, but here I will be backing America, for me only Carole King can sing ‘Will you love me tomorrow’…

I knew you had Waz and was worthy of another outing. Thought I’d throw this one in as well. Her voice is just a smoky as Dusty Springfield yet was seen to be of an earlier era. She’s seven years younger than Dusty as well.

BTW I’ll raise you a Dusty.

Listened to the Beatles’ Here, There and Everywhere, very, very nice…I also like the album cover, good enough to be put on one’s wall.
Second one was Gerry and Pacemakers’ Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Cryin’, love it…love it a lot.
After these two wonderful performances I have to stop and take a break.. and to listen to them ..again!

One of my favourite covers of a Beatles’ song. Great funky feel, fabulous front line!

Many thanks, Warrigal, don’t tell me you are doing all this from your ‘hopsital’ bed! You must be seriously on the mend.

I love that guitar solo at about 1’45”. Only an SG Gibson can make that sound. About the only thing SG’s were good for was that fat multi-harmonic feedback, or a sort of chunky rhythm with body but no cut. They were quick to play, lovely fret board and with those cutaways you could really hammer very high notes, but the thing was a pig at general duties. Les Paul himself never liked the guitar and had his name taken off the model.
The early ones are very collectable these days. Much loved by those that take the time to get to grips with their odd sound.

It further occurs to me that Carlos Santana’s early controlled feedback sound, (shown to great effect here:
was produced by his SG, and his playing is still characterised by that beautiful sustained control of feedback.
Of course these days he plays mostly his own custom designs.

And it further occurs to me that the stage manager at Woodstock must have been too stoned to manage his stage. Who are all those sundries and punters wandering about? It’d never happen on one of Chuggie’s stages.

You’re deliberately trying to ‘stir’ me about SGs aren’t you Warrigal? Okay, I’ll bite:
I think they’ve got a great range of sound potential, plus a very fast neck (Gibson claim it’s the fastest on the planet, of course!) incredible vibrato potential and the same humbucking pickups and neck as a Les Paul, which, combined with a solid mahogany body (hence ‘SG’ = ‘Solid Guitar’) give it wonderful tone and almost unlimited sustain… and that’s even without ‘effects’ boxes or pedals…
Of course, I suppose, however, that if you’ve lived all your life around all those other really expensive Gibsons, perhaps you might feel a bit more blase about SGs; they were supposed to be the ‘poor man’s Les Paul’, after all… But to me it’s the equivalent of going from driving an old Moggie Minor to driving a Ferrari… (One day my fingers will speed up fast enough to do the neck justice, I hope!) Dunno what Les Paul had agin’ ’em!
Must say I’m still really loving the range of sounds I get out of my Epiphone too… another mahogany body and neck (this time on an acoustic/electric) with a spruce soundtable; even when playing as an acoustic this guitar somehow sounds ‘electric’… a lovely implement! (And considerably cheaper even than the SG too!)
