For the musos–and anyone interested, here is a list that you may have seen–but you may not have: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-guitarists-of-all-time-19691231
There is a small write up on each artists. And tid-bits; like Joni Mitchell’s polio.
You can start at 100 and work through–or jump through the list. There are some interesting players. Some are dead of course; and some forgotten.
You’ve probably seen it before. I knew about it, but had never looked 🙂

Thanks JL, the link looks good to me, I am a big fan of tid bits. 🙂

I have a confession to make. All of these songs and others are available in a bio-pic about Cole Porter called “De-Lovely” starring Kevin Kline as Cole.
Here’ the trailer. It sometimes turns up late at night and is well worth catching.

Well done. A lot of effort in tracking and submitting. So just to let you know that it is appreciated; despite our slew of anxieties. Yours about Sofhia Barrabella and mine about Julia Gillard’s Wilson connection.
Music conquers a lot.

Sade has a wonderful Voice

It’s Sade’s whole schtick really.
It’s when you hear Ella Fitzgerald singing an old classic that you remember how much voice is missing from modern songs.

Totally agree 🙂

Sade reminds me of afters in ‘The Plough & Barleycorn’. The landlord was an Irishman named Noel and we used to gather on a Sunday afternoon. Pubs closed at 3:00 pm then.
I saw him on my trip there recently. We had a chuckle about the old days, together with a couple of ‘old stagers’ (habitués) that used to frequent.
Yeah, Sade was on in the background. It was hypnotically played, over and over.
And over….sigh.

I still think that Gary Shearston’s I Get a Kick Out of You is just brilliant.

I have to say that Stacey Kent singing Too Darn Hot was rather cool, of course so are Diana Krall, Ella, and Julie London. Julie sings My heart belongs to Daddy beautifully.
Viv, I find Gary too sweet…

Ah well, each to his/her own. Gary became a minister of religion didn’t he? Still, I’ll have the Oils any day. I like stuff with a lot of oomph.
Helvi, have you tracked down Architecture in Helsinki. They originated in my neck of the woods as it turns out. Balldale, Albury, Corowa and played at an Albury pub. They are currently back in Australia. Very popular o/s.

And some Joseph looking for a manger……and Waz’s music!
Everybody knows.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows
