So while FM was doing the right thing working off a few hundred croissants in the “gym” downstairs, yours truly was doing what he does best – feet up lying in bed channel surfing. On French TV – a channel devoted exclusively to the cinema (I saw not one commercial unless you count interviews with cinematographers, directors and such as commercials), I chanced upon this gem – from a Melbourne-based outfit.
The further you get from home, the better view you get, I reckon.
Check it out. It’s bloody magnificent.
Hi Therese,
Just wanted to drop you a line and say how chuffed I was to discover you post about Nullarbor and all the lovely things your friends and family who watched the film on YouTube said as well. Made my night it did. The Lampshade Collective has just finished our second short film and we are hoping to revisit Nullarbor again soon.
Thanks for your support

How is the dreadful collapse of Europe’s economy showing up in Paris Emm? Any signs of desperation and deep despair?
We had a friend coming back from Italy and she reckons they were all whooping it up as never before.

Very good, Emm, drove the road once, when Mrs A and I got married. Car had a breakdown just outside Nundroo, towed by an SLR5000 with a bungie cord. $2 set points packed it in. On the WA side is one of the longest straight sections of road in the world at around 140kms. It’s so flat you can see the road disappear over the horizon. Chose to drive on wrong side of the road to break the boredom of that drive. Mrs A asked what I was doing we might have an accident. Dutifully I went back to the right side. Only saw one other vehicle on that stretch…
The road does actually get as close to the bight as the filum suggests.

My former neighbor, with his artificial heart valve rode a cod-ordinary push bike, with all of his food in a little trailer, unsupported by anyone else, from Perth to Newcastle. He reckoned the same. It would be the ideal place to bring ‘flat earth folk’.

They’re a different breed there that’s for sure. On the Western Australian side, they have there own unofficial time zone, 3/4 ahead of WST (or 3/4 hour behind CST). There’s a police station at Eucla and another at Norseman. The Police drive to the middle then back again. They also use planes to check the speed of drivers. Must be a real money spinner for them.
