Well, having decided to refresh my memory of some wonderful singers, I say that Regina is just Regina though I never heard her, or of her, before now ! I don’t think she could join the likes of Joni, or Judy Collins, Holly Near, Joan Baez or Mary Travers – women who were also fighters for social justice and weren’t afraid of making political statements via their songs. I think they also have a lot more oomph of the right kind.
I bet you were proud algy and Regina is a wonderful musician, not only a songster. I imagine the young people find a lot of inspiration from Regina’s work and I would have loved her at that same age.
Lyrically interesting certainly, with touches of La Mitchell but I find the voice just a little too fey. Not unpleasant but nowhere as interesting as Joni’s deep bass to high falsetto, and such complex tonality.
But I don’t want to piss on your parade, yes she has a sweet voice.
I listened to it and thought that the voice almost too sweet, then when Gez settled in front of his computer I asked what he thought of Regina…it was too something for him too…
She certainly is attractive and has an interesting background..

What a wonderful video. It shows Glenn Gould in a light I had imagined of being edgy and maybe impatient. I love his playing of Bach.

Algernonia the Elder sang this Regina Spektor at her High School Graduation last year with others. I was a fairly proud Algy that night.
The Call.
I think she (Regina) has a great voice not dissimilar to Joni’s.

A bit too sweet for me. No doubt my hearing is the culprit.
My favourite is Cesaria Evora; may she rest in peace.
