Hi Algy. FM and I went to see the Amy Winehouse doc – “Amy” – classic story of enormous talent, profligate life brought down by those around her and the pressure of fame. Absolutely fantastic voice. The segment – late in her career – in recovery from drugs and alcohol (one of many recoveries, apparently) singing a duet with Tony Bennet is hauntingly beautiful.
Go and see it. It’s a great movie doc.
Next movie – Love and Mercy – Brian Wilson’s story.
Hello piglets. Love and Mercy – the Brian Wilson – story… Immediately after it – from the theatre foyer – I telephoned my son who has the same condition of schizophrenia. He said straight away ‘Pretty heavy movie, eh?’ with a chuckle.
Not so heavy as a movie or a production. It is however uncompromising and purpose built to show and inform. The entertainment value is in the performances. I would give them all 10/10. 🙂
Love all that stuff. I’ve found some wonderful compilations – best dance stuff from movies. Dirty Dancing wins every time. What about the Pointer Sisters?
Yes, the Pointer Sisters were great / are great too. My Pointer Sister favourites – Jump and Fire. I saw them as an 80s group but Youtube has clips from the 1970s as well. Big hair days indeed.
Nice little segue to the weekend list Therese. I’ll get around to watching it later.

Amy would have been the next big band voice. Still listen to her, bloody fantastic.
