As one of the comments under the Wild Honey track bubbles, it is a travesty that Wild Honey etc etc didn’t get the promotion and air space they deserve. Words like those.
Wild Honey blew me away when I came across it trawling for discs to spin in my radio days. I thought something like the commenter, mine was more amazement where this had been hiding. Think they were real young when they came up with Wild Honey.
The Aaron Neville vocal is beautiful, beautiful. Frogs Jam Band in the days way back when in Kuranda was one outfit holding a v high regard for Neville, but this track Hercules appeals to my ear for the contralto register and surprises me. I thought AN was a mezzo soprano (I’m kidding, truly, he’s the word whatever he sings). Beautiful and intriguingly thought provoking song what I could make of the lyrics first time through.
Harlem Shuffle is a bit of a funny thing, almost like a short joke encapsulating everything that was said by popsicles about Harlem moves and the groove.
The Bruce Springsteen left me at moments …or came to me as a lot of eminently talented musos letting it rip with varying moments when the notes touched, cor that was lucky I swear I heard someone say, it so threw me to the idea of a lot of high falutins lobbing by happy chance on the stage of a totally high class live music gig, but really … like Frogs was at times in its hey day (never laid eyes on each other, before tonight, but maybe half a dozen of one and six of the other). I left it to move on. Best in a live venue.
I know The Doors number. I played a Doors number recently for somebody who didna ken who I was speaking about (transfixed them) and I know what I’ll think again, what I said, Jim Morrison remains to my mind one of the greatest communicators and musicians of all time, he’ll be hard to beat.
That’s all so far. Takes me back. The beat is timeless. Thanks Algy.
