Great list. Tucker’s Daughter a fav – love Moss’ voice. Some years later we were holidaying at Manly and in evening walking along the beach road and the pub there was chock full of lucky people swinging away as Ian Moss sang and played his stuff. Memorable too as the place we stayed at was a multi story ‘motel’ and backpacker joint but very handy for what we wanted. One night some of the ‘guests’ were extremely noisy and finally someone got up and yelled from his balcony very loudly and strongly FERME LA BOUCHE. Daughters asked what on earth was that – I said a Frenchman rightly telling them to shut up. And they did.

Glad to hear, HOO. Never saw him but liked the music. Liked a lot of 80’s music.

I remember an incident back stage at one of Simply Red’s Australian gigs where Mick Hucknall was mouthing off to one of the Australian crew suggesting that the Australian local crew weren’t up to snuff. Not a wise thing to say to an Australian Roadie. We have the best crew in the world, by international consent.
I remember the guy in question. He had recently been working with Bob Dylan and was only involved with the Simply Red gig at some peripheral level. He waited patiently for Mick to finish his rant at how bad Aussie crew were, smiling an indulgent smile, then offered, in that laconic way that Aussie crew have when dealing with ego; “Well, if you were half as good as you seem to think you are, then you’d still be twice as good as you really are!”
He turned and walked away while Mick just looked gob smacked. I guess no English crew had ever spoken to him that way. He was a bit full of himself.
Still I too have a few SR discs and the band was always very well recorded. A real pleasure to “listen” to.

Algy ! What a list ! Tucker’s Daughter has fond memories for me. I was working in Adelaide and my ex brought our then six week old daughter down to share a week with me. But so many other good tunes – always a fan f the Mentals, And the airwaves in Adelaide were full of Womack and Womack ! Many thanks, Emm.
