imagesCABHA9WXastyagesWell… I’m hoping this new video I’ve just posted on my YouTube channel (ie. theseustoo’s YouTube channel) will make up for the rather disappointing results of my last attempt to post some music here. At least over at YouTube it still sounds the way it did when I edited it; and if it’s not quite perfect, well, I think it ain’t that bad either! Do let me know what you think of the Burnside Refugees cover of the Grateful Dead’s ‘Casey Jones’; an old favorite of mine from a time-space far, far away…

Hope you had as much fun listening to it as we did playing  it, anyway!

That 70’s show  Tonight 1978-1979

Tonights show takes us back 2000 years to a very special life from a very naughty boy.  It also brings us some very naughty girls as well and something without much dialogue.  The popular music seems different too, but that could just be me.

With each of these I tried to match the original version with the version that had arguably the most chart success. Some of the covers are in some cases better than the original like All along the watchtower. Others are indistinguishable from the original like Gloria.

The Big Four

By Algernon

Tonight’s episode marked a change in popular music styles. 1976 and 1977 saw the rise of Punk and New Wave. It also saw the Dance music or Disco become more popular. The Naked Vicar Show commenced in 1976 and Homicide ceased production in 1977 after 13 years. This episode included Alwyn Kurts in the cast. He was written out in 1974 with this one being only one of eight produced in colour.  Leonard Teale, also appeared and along with George Mallaby  and Norman Yemm were the mainstay from 1967 to 1974.

Cast of Fawlty Towers

Playlist by Algernon

As with the others these featured as Top 100 songs somewhere. Division 4 was a police “drama” which finished production in 1975. Interestingly the final episode was shown in Sydney in September 1975 and in Melbourne where it was produced in February of 1976! As for Fawlty Towers I could have put any amount of clips here and I’d still be rolling around on the floor.
