Painting and Story by Winifred Ramsay
I saw two rainbow lorikeets in the tree at the top of the yard. This tree had hard brown pods, and one had opened. They were both standing on the branch next to the pod. One of them would reach into the pod and pull out the seed. It was a flat round seed encased in a piece of translucent paper-like material. The lorikeet would give the seed to the other lorikeet, who would nibble at it and then let it go, and it would float down like a large snowflake through the yard. Then it would take one for itself, then it would give another one to its mate. They did that until the pod was empty. What a lovely partnership, I thought. Ecology, tenderly.

Funny… I coulda sworn I left a comment here yesterday on the gorgeous colours and the lovely story… and it seems to have disappeared… Oh well… you know what I think about it now, anyway! Onya Lehan!

A friend that I haven’t seen for ages used to buy art from Haiti.
I don’t know the correct terminology. Naive perhaps? Your work often reminds me of that style.
A style that I like. Sort of unselfish &….’just there’ !

VL, that’s a nice if unusual way of putting; unsefish, just there. I like that…

Lovely work, Lehan, and lovely birds. I often watch them bathing, one sits in the nearby tree, watching for predators, whilst the other has a great splash, then they swap places. Lovely little creatures.

I read about Barney the Owl in the SMH today , it could not have been the same owl that slept on a tree branch in our backyard yesterday. Interestingly Milo left him well alone, it looked wiser than Milo…

Time spent observing lorikeets is time well spent, and you have a bonus painting. Have you tamed the tree with nail scissors yet? 🙂

Economy of words and brushstrokes, yet, or maybe because of it, lovely results…nice colours too.
I have missed your paintings and your words. Well done, Lehan.

Lehan,
What a beautiful vignette and painting. Nice, crisp, and unadorned. You are back again and in full flight.
