Some of our regular patrons of the Pig’s Arms might remember a review I wrote a while back on the great raconteur – Mike Daisey who performed at the Sydney OH last year – his monologue on cargo cults.
Mike returns to this year’s Festival of Dangerous Ideas with his new work – the Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs.

I don’t often buy hard copies of newspapers; but did today.
My eye was drawn to the Headline (in the local comic), about Beatty, being touted for Head Hog of The ALP.
So I grabbed a selection. I only had to splash out a few bucks and I got an armful of paper with print on. It took to long to read though I won’t do it again: try 2 hours of perusing–and hardly making a dent.
One good thing: I was forewarned about a holiday tomorrow: The Gold Coast Show! That ‘is’ good news. A long weekend to get the trailer working and fiddle with the garden.
Anyways, I noticed on page 11 of one of the nationals, an article about Steve Jobs. It stood out; partly because it’s highly topical and partly because the writer’s name was in RED CAPITAL letters.
It was in the OPINION section on page 11. The writers name being Julian Lee.
So here it is. For youse all. Above!

This ‘Julian Lee’ wouldn’t happen to be related to someone we know about who’s fond of using pseudonyms, would it? Someone who perhaps has the same initials?

I know when someone has left a message for me because I check in several times a day… And yes, I did read that article; but not until after I’d left that remark; now I know it wasn’t you… just someone with a similar first name and the same initials… merely a coincidence.

Oh crap. You mean that one of the few designer items I possess (I know it’s mass produced but come on, that lit apple still gives me a quiet thrill) is now morally off limits? About the only thing I’d have left is that fantastic lid on the Nescafe Gold jars. Not that I’d ever drink instant coffee.
Not surprising the whole China thing is suss when you stop to think about it for longer than 5 seconds. We all knew why it’s so cheap to manufacture there. It’s just that Apple is an ‘ex-latte now moved on to macchiatto’ drinker brand, right?

For the more literal minded amongst us, that was not a comment about coffee or coffee drinkers.
I myself have sat down in the dirt with Aboriginal elders who treated me as their family … scratch that … some of my best friends are [InsertNationalityHere] … no, that’s not it either … here we are … I enjoy good coffee.
On the broader topic of good food/drink I once visited someone who walked out of the room to get two very good bottles of wine, showed them to me, and walked out again … taking the bottles with them. That I found hard to take. But more than happy to have someone share their genuine interest, particularly if they share their coffee.
