This is a great playlist, Algy. I played it all – and I was delighted to hear bands I had never before heard.
Small piece of synchronicity – met up with two mates in Paris – who shared a flight back to the UK with ……. the Specials !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGDQ85Dg-ss

Pleased you enjoyed it Emm. Now what woulf have been impressive would have been an inproptu gig on the kite by them. I always thought The Specials were an ’80’s band ths one was 1979 I noticed.

Weren’t they cute in that original clip ? All kinds of prehistory – Reggae, Roots, Ska and pre-punk ! They played at the Enmore a few weeks ago, but FM and I had shelled out $190 for Brian Setzer (of Stray Cats fame) and went to the gig two days before Paris lift off – wanted to go to the Specials too, but a budget is a budget, eh.

They certainly were, I thought I saw them years ago somewhere weird like Coffs Harbour in a pub, my memory is a bit vague though. Whatever it was Ska and the band was English. Not up to seeing band just yet Mrs A and I haven’t for years.
Youngest Algernonina painted a portrait of Dame Edna for the Royal Easter show this year. Mrs A bought tockets for the youngest and I to see Barrys final in July, in the god’s mind you and about $200.

Thanks for the list, Algy.
What is that art work, Algernon?

Well its a green field with trees in the background and clouds with a reggee wash over the top, shoe.
I found it on the net, one of the few with colours associated with reggee colours that wasn’t an album cover or advertising something.

Algy, I don’t know how that is done. I recently was drawn to ask an online friend if he had altered a photograph of a landscape. He made it look more like an old hand coloured postcard but it was so well done and then this one popped up in front of me,
I guess by ‘reggae wash’ that its done in one step by computer software applying the effect. Thanks, Algy.

I suspect its done in using something like photoshop or the like, where they can take a digital image and add what the like to it. Junior has some software that makes things jump out at the page at you.

This was my first introduction to Reggie/West Indian music. I heard it at a club in North London, when I stayed with a freind from boarding school. He was an ardent ‘Mod’ and showed me around their cultural venues (cafes).

There is another; later, version by Shaggy. It suits his gruff voice — but this is the one that haunts my memories.

I must be losing my marbles. I thought that I had made a post here yesterday. Oh well, it must be WordPress. It’s temperamental.
The sound in The UK was called Bluebeat. It was all the rage in the early 60s, when I was at school.

Not holding my breath regards ‘Friday’, helvityni. Crossing some fingers for you ay if it’s the internet you be waiting for 🙂 . Fraid I still have a hole in the ground in the front yard waiting attention; the branch aerial temporary line still drapes over the grape vine I keep it disentangled from. 🙂

No wi-fi no cry.
I have now taken to put the wi-fi up the tree. It seems to give a better reception away from metal roof.

Me too, H. Did you catch the awsome number of views on the Bob Marley clips ? Like 32 million for 3 little birds ! Wow !
LikeLike
32 million is inpressive isn’t it, that every one in the country watching it 1.5 times.!
I’m often interested on some of the stuff people put up on youtube. Some get a handful of views others a lot more. Junior has is own channel where he puts his stuff up some have few views others a few hundered and some a few thousand. He’s got two though that have 12,000 odd and his best over 60000. The 60000 is a very clever clip.
