No, Mrs M doesn’t agree, but she just turned 55 ( I like the allure of an older woman).
Nice to hear that you’re raising hell at The Bum. It’s a pain trying to get a post up. It’s often closed for new posts before it’s open!

Well this morning they put up blogs for comment and you couldn’t post to them. Fridays are a waste as they head off early for beer o’clock.

You have done a good job, alge, once again. I hope you don’t mind me saying that Marlene Dietrich’s Where Have All The Flowers Gone would fit in here very well, even if sung in German 🙂

This time around I focused on Australian tunes or written poems. I think on a previous war tune list I did include a Marlene Dietrich, though that list include tunes from around the world. Its difficult to get a balance the pros or cons on war. The Hey True Blue was included more for its patriotic verve than actually being a son about war.
I hope I got the balance right.

Thank you Gez, It’s one I like. The Vietnam war was what I grew up with and recall the bad treatment the Vietnam veterans managed on their return, particularly from the likes of the RSL. I think it’s respectful tune, one that strikes a cord with the Vietnam vets.

You and I must be about the same age. Algy. I still remember the ads on telly, telling 18 to whatever year olds with birthdays before, or after, 1st July, to report to the draft office. I was terrified!

I think I worked out from earlier posts that I’m about a year older than you I’ll be 55 this year. I finished school in 1976 when I was 18. I remember my mother saying to others when I was about 13 that that could be our sons in a few years. I think I worked out what that meant. Therese must have been close.

Some of them are like little parrots Helvi. Andie in particular, can’t manage an argument so he just starts with the abuse, realist was another that short shrift today.
Big M did you finish school in 1977?
