Bill Peach was part of the landscape of my youth. I grew up with TDT and Bill’s affable and good natured take on the day’s news and current affairs.
Although they may not have yet lain him to rest, I’m wondering whether he’ll be rotating in the ground when he considers the work of the contemporary heirs to his 7:30 time slot, not the least their political coverage.
It’s sad to think he’s gone and his loss adds a fresh reminder to the passing of the years.
Check out the set in this picture – complete with red painted (and chipped edges) plywood desk, thermos flask and Thunderbirds TV monitor. They don’t make them like that any more.

Lovely bloke, humble but at the same time happy in his skin…
He was not one to live in Abbott led country,a good man from country, Australia needs more Bill Beaches…

Bill Peach was a real peach. I have some of his books, The Explorers for instance – great stuff. I used to look forward to ABC interviews on its various news programs – for some time now I spend too much time yelling abuse at the tele and generally getting angry. O’Brien still passed muster but since then it has been downhill.

The ABC ran an obituary: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-27/the-life-and-legacy-of-bill-peach/4916362.
Great bloke, always the same. Thought every destination in Australia was fantastic!

Yes, he was one of the pioneers of bringing TDT with lots of easy less formal Aunty stuff. A good bloke. Compare him with Leigh Sales and her bitchy interviews. The bitterness is everywhere. Mike, are you back from Jakarta, and if so, how was it?

Hi Gez, no, still here in the capital. Badly smitten by the place and the people. Heading home Thursday morning. Missing FM and the kids heaps, but thoroughly enjoying the work. Story to come.
