I agree with Mark. I was familiar only with three of these, Algy – so your playlists as always – are an education in sonic pleasure. Many thanks,.

Crikey Ace, don’t know many of these. The Pogues are an interesting band.

These are a re-creation of a series of Radio shows Joe Strummer made for BBC1 between 1998 and 2001. The list comes from the show mostly, with the odd substitution if I can’t find the tune. There a lot of world music in these lists as well a some of the music that shaped him musically. Some I hadn’t heard before when preparing, The African music in this is worth a listen. There is Reggae as well.
I know its a bit different to most of the lists I put together

They certainly are, Hung. Our Uke orchestra plays a lot of Pogues songs (see the clips from the Pig’s home page) – the usual favourites are “Dirty Old Town” – or as we sing it “Dirty Newtown”, the challenging and hard to play well “Fairytale of New York” and the lovely ballad with the limited vocabulary “Summer in Siam”. Catch these on YoutTube too.
