Okay, here’s the second song I recorded that I thought sounded good enough to post
I know… it does sound a bit rough, but I’m sure that all my loyal piglet friends will understand the context and not expect the same from a jam session, recorded in my lounge on Abner’s iPod, as they might from a concert in the Royal Albert Hall or the Sydney Opera House…
Anyway, here’s our interpretation of Jethro Tull’s ‘Locomotive Breath’, from one of my favorite albums of all time, “Aqualung”. Highly recommended to anyone who’s never heard of or had the good fortune to listen to Jethro Tull; the very pinnacle of English folk-rock… I had the great privilige of watching Tull perform live at Hammersmith Odeon circa 1979 I think; I’ll just bet Julian was there too… Anyway, without further ado, here it is:
🙂

I wrote a piece to this. I think it was eaten up by the boogie woogie monsters.

I tried a second time and it was gobbled up again.

Emmjay, in this case it was comment specific to the boogie as in 4 beats to the bar. No matter now. Going to sleep. Ni-night.

I wanted to move the bongoes back, mike the voice and add a tad of bass. V relaxing apart from that. Excell. 🙂

I agree, this is a more together piece. I particularly like the guitar work and the coda. I think my graphic equalizer is playing havoc with the bongos. Cheap Microsoft crap 🙂

More like the bongos are playing havoc with your graphic equalizer, Emmjay. If it’s a bit ‘untogether’ this is because Abner and I have not jammed together for so long that he’s not familiar with my current repertoire; he’s really a much better drummer than he sounds here…
And of course, the only way I would have of balancing the sound of the bongos would have been to turn up my amp, but in a flat there’s a limit on just how loud one dare play…

Nah, I was just being a bit mean, T2. I reckon you chaps are great for ripping in and having a good go.
Many thanks. Kick on, mes amis.

Tend to agree with Emm, much tighter sound, probably needs to be balanced with some bass…

Yep! Definitely need a bassist; especially if her name happens to be Tal Wilkenfeld, unless Hung gets his act together… there’s really nothing to hold the guitar and drums together… Abner is also used to his full kit, sparse as it is (it lacks toms) but it was fun anyway… and isn’t that what playing music is all about? (If it isn’t, it bloody well should be!)
However, poor musos like us have always had to make do with whatever instruments were to hand… in some respects I think this is why music played by the poor, the downtrodden and the oppressed is much less formal, but often so much more vital than the highly stylized, ritualised, formalized and ‘aestheticized’ music of the rich; where a note out of place is a hanging offence… music for fascists… (If you haven’t guessed, I’m a ‘folkie’ from waaaaaaaaaaay back! But I’m also a rock’n’roller, ’cause that’s how the modern ‘folk’ idiom expresses itself).

DL, this one is better and a bit more in sync. Got to see Tull at the Thebby Theatre on their last world tour however my brother was a fan and used to thrash them to death on our stereo till finally it rubbed off.

You mean his taste for Tull rubbed off on you, Hung? Or that the grooves rubbed off the vynil?

Yes. His name was David. David had a big influence in my early years as he was 7 years older than me. He liked Tull, CSNY, Chicago, Stones etc but the real passion he developed unwittingly in me was for the blues thru Hendrix, Mayall and Paul Butterfield. It wasn’t until I started to get good at the guitar that I realised that I liked the blues so much.
