The recent post at the Drum (Finishing the Job on Misogyny, August 29) about the Grahame Morris spat is all politically correct stuff. Who could seriously argue that calling a much exalted TV reporter “a cow” is acceptable ?
But neither is a so-called senior TV reporter entitled to talk over the top of her hosts’ answers and ask disgraceful questions that show a complete lack of respect for the positions of PM and other senior ministers. We can see that scoundrels are lying through their teeth, Ms Sales. You don’t need to prove it !
I think that Ms Sales and Mr Uhlmann are both a disgrace to their profession. In my book they do not enjoy the same social status as the leaders of our country and they should show some respect.
Neither have they contributed anything positive to the nation. This is not informing Australians. It’s a pathetic attempt at racing the commercial stations to the bottom, most of the time.
Ms Sales and Mr Uhlmann are both just sh1t-stirrers at a time the nation is oversupplied with the same.
It seems that Wayne Swan, Julia Gillard and Bill Shorten have been coached and have finally been able to deal with Ms Sales and Mr Uhlmann’s goading. Not only do they seem to not lose their cool under cross-examination, they seem to also be able to sell the message they came on screen to deliver – and frustrate the shit out of dickhead reporters at the same time. I love the standard line “Well, I don’t accept the premise of your question, Leigh / Chris”.
Not a chance in hell that Tony Abbot or Joe or anyone on the Opposition front bench has the brains to pull the same thing off. If they keep up being policy free and Labor keeps on handing out the goodies, it’s a monster turnaround – but no thanks to shock-jock tactics in the ABC.
In that regard, isn’t it a pleasant change to see the reporting end as buffoon rather than as a try hard would be inquisitor ?

Leigh Sales made a ridiculous comment (intended to be a question) in the previous 48 hours (forgotten where I saw it) implying the text messages by Peter Slipper (that were acknowledged by him as offensive) ought to indicate renewed attention to Peter Slipper in reference to his alleged statutory guilt of sexual harrassment. That is regrettably silly given the risks potential in her position of being so ill advised buying into that line of reasoning. I would be worrying if I was her employer.

Tony Rabbot, is the present’s idea of the past. And the past’s idea of the future. A man of the 1950s running Australia in the twenty-first century? No way!

… that would be a man of the 50s running Australia right back to the 12th century too, Venise! And of course, he wouldn’t run anything at all; all that would be done by his master in Rome; Tony would just be a(nother?) big-eared, loud-mouthed rubber stamp for the vatican.

It was one of the golden moments of TV. I’d like to say that once gain Tony Abbott lowered his own standards. But, as he hasn’t got any standards it makes the remark irrelevant. It was a first class piece of reportage. Well done Leigh. {especially the dinosaur crack.}

I forgive Leigh Sales everything for this one interview, the Press has been too easy on Abbott, so glad someone took him to task..

Me too, Helvi, but it doesn’t need anyone at all to help Abbott look like a blustering, bumbling buffoon or a blithering idiot; it’s quite evident the moment he opens his mouth.

Trioli, who hosts the breakfast program for ABC2 and News 24 out of Melbourne, was in Sydney this week screen testing for the role. Jones was also considered, but it’s understood management is reluctant to shift him from Lateline and particularly Q&A, which under his chairmanship has become one of the broadcaster’s most high-profile programs.

I can’t stand Chris and can stand Leigh. Leigh used to be excellent but gradually dumbed down somewhat. However, the other night was just great. Tony Jones talks over nearly everyone – but I never, ever liked him as an interviewer.

Tony Jones is highly overrated by ABC “groupies”. Q&A is mostly rubbish, posing as intellectual comment on current affairs, their guests are mainly lefty pseudo intellectuals , don’t know why anyone wastes their time watching it, read a good book instead I say.

I tend to agree that both Sales and Uhlmann are both a disgrace to their profession, However watching Sales carve up Abbott the other night was pure gold, no goading, just Abbott making a complete goose of himself. It was obvious he hadn’t read Kloppers comments, and relied on his usual attack lines and it bought him undone. It was a rare occasion where I though Sales had done a good job.
Just imagine what a competent journalist would have done to Abbott.

I dunno… could be fun to be a dinosaur… as long as you were one of the larger, predatory ones…

No, I thought the opposite. Leigh was doing her job in trying to get answers to her questions. Abbott was slipping and sliding, going on how the carbon tax would be hurting the big miners when the miners had come out to say the opposite.
Anyway, rudeness reigns everywhere. To see expert and professional interviews, watch the( Lehrer Report,) News Hour.
I was relishing how finally somebody showed Abbott up as the bumbling oaf.
