I’m not saying that that state and Federal Labor are wonderful trusty, ethical upholders of good government and I’m not exhorting everyone to vote for them.
But the prospect of returning to another decade of Howardesque misery, xenophobia, environmental ignorance and mean-spiritedness is a shitty alternative.
And the thought of having a retro-coalition government – this time led by a halfwit retard sexist pig in speedos is just too far beyond the pale.
So, in response to that disastrous idea, here’s the Australian Pussy Riot Team. They dropped into the Pig’s Arms and dished it out – reminding us of the calibre of the challenger to the throne.
Most Pig’s Arms patrons can cope with a bit of rough language – even abuse – if you’re not one of them, don’t listen to this clip (but it DOES raise the tone of the debate)

Ah, the picture at the top of this article brings back many bad memories – a reminder of just how nasty some Australians have become. That picture was, of course, from the “Convoy of No Confidence” rally in Canberra in 2011 organised by C.A.T.A. (Consumer and Taxpayers’ Assoc.). That rally had the support of Alan Jones who was a key speaker and I believe David Flint was a supporter too. These are the same people who verbally abused Gillard in Parliament this week. After they were ejected from Parliament they were photographed with Julie Bishop on the lawns of Parliament House. Two other possible supporters of C.A.T.A. are Cory Bernadi and Barnaby Joyce. Says it all really, doesn’t it?

The Second Coming
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

I offer some self disclosure and qualification I would read the end of this dramatic poem quite differently were I reading it now 46 years forward. I have this reading as my father kept it unbeknowns to me.

Yes, it is curious that some of us have mouths that seem to have a life of their own. The lips twists and rotate while the face remains curiously inert without facial muscles in tandem with the lips. Mirabella does it so perfectly. Perhaps it is the continental influence. Australians were often projected as having the face totally immobile when speaking in order to keep flies out. It was supposed to give us a ‘nuggety’ image, ‘hardy and yet tolerant’ and nothing could shake us from our deep sense of self-worth.

Well, if we believe Chris Uhlmann and Leigh Sales ongoing two-handed vendetta against the Labor party, we’d think there was some truth in it being merely a matter of time before the Liberals do take back from the Unions, and from the Environment, and Health and Education, and Immigration – although the latter is not much change from the status quo.
But a couple of nights ago, I watched the pathetic pebbles Leigh was chucking at Penny Wong bounce off and hit Leigh right in the eye. And today we saw the revival of the “Your side invented Work Choices” and rising employment figures…. and a stock market ASX back over 5,000.
So, I for one won’t be holding my breath for a Labor win. But I may well be ecstatic if I get to see a Tony loss.

Education is in the dark ages in this country, thanks to recent state governments.

Have to agree with you on that. Also I agree with the recent move to promote people who are actually temperamentally suitable for teacher intake – and to train teachers across the board. I recall some years ago when it was pointed out that Queensland in particular had the lowest percentage of degree qualified high school teachers in the country, and that the effect of this this flowed right through as lead in the saddlebags of all tertiary education students in that state.

Education has been in the dark ages for many years in Australia. Let’s not downplay the shocking education many of us had when we were children and risk turning every disclosure into a political bunfight about contemporary governance. My view of the current crop on both sides is that they are the products of the systematic attempts to brainwash Australian children handed down from generation to generation for at least the previous 63 years I know of. Attempting to Render Children Stupid. For what else is propoganda?

I think the actors ought to be congratulated on a spirited performance. 😉

Good to hear male voices laughing and cheering! (Bronnie scares me, by the way.)

Mouth like a cat’s raw bum. There is a new group seeking an independent voice for Indi. We are hoping that they put up a candidate. I’m over the border of course but will be giving them a hand if they do run in September.

I like that vivenne, I tended to think that she’d been born with two bums and no mouth. Unfortunately she has to talk through one of them.

I can claim only a small input in that area, YT. But funny those women were !
Stay tuned, I have a surprising sound clip of Malcolm Turnbull – who performed, amazingly well at the same gig ! Tough act to follow though, Pussy Riot.

Arguably one of the most useless politicians to ever grace the parliamentary seats in the country is the voice of the 1920’s.
