Yep – the MALL muzak.

Can’t see them playing Demons and Wizards in any mall. The muzak of course would be different in the elevators.

Yes,good reply Algernon, I too found it a bit of a strange remark. Started me thing though when did I hear Demons and Wizards on the radio. Songs over 4 minutes were frowned on in those days and still are I guess hence we were inundated with Beatle type bands and never really heard much of Yes or Pink Floyd.

Without looking them up I’m guessing 1972??

I thought about that you know but I went roughly 7 years ahead of the last list to about 1973. The Aztecs are a bit earlier. But agree.

As always, an interesting selection, Algy.
But the photo this week bears a lot of scrutiny ! It looks like Castle Hill Mall to me, but the style is way older than that I reckon. Check out the super posed people – the politically incorrect hairy chested stance on the man. The girl who can’t wait to go home. The women – drained of all energy (a mall will do that in experience). And to cap it off, those shitty plants much favoured by cheap-arse councils to strew in those difficult areas under trees with the obligatory bark chips – insufficient in quantity to look abundant, soon to be adorned by papers, scraps and, in that era, cigarette butts.
Such a compelling place to go.
Thank goodness for the muzak 🙂

Apparently its Karrinyup Mall in WA circa 1973. I had thought of a random school photo that may or may not have had Hung in it, but then I found this stunner. It had a certain je ne sais quoi about it, I thought. That forced posed the plants synonymous with any non descript shopping mall anywhere. You picked up on all the themes I did the child who wants to be anywhere else but there. Why the bloke has to have his foot on the seat the woman looking wistfully away.
I think the the thing about the plants is they’ll grow anywhere with negligence. I guess the only thing it didn’t have was the raindrop fountain.
Now I’m hoping you were saying that the mall music was muzak. 🙂
