Mike Nesmith could be dismissed as the son who’s mother invented Liquid Paper or part of a Television pop rock band but he was much more. Over time he became quite frustrated with the band’s manufactured image of which he was the most vocal.
He was a song writer as well as being a music & video producer. He is considered to be a pioneer of Country Rock.
This list highlights songs he wrote for The Monkees as well as The First National Band and his solo efforts. There are also songs he wrote, performed by others.
Last Train to Clarksville – The Monkees
Pleasant Valley Sunday – The Monkees
I’m a Believer – The Monkees
A little bit me a little bit you – The Monkees
Joanne – Mike Nesmith and The First National Band
Different Drum – Mike Nesmith
Mary Mary – The Monkees
Propinquity (I’ve Just Begun to Care) – Mike Nesmith and The First National Band
Listen to the Band – The Monkees
Different Drum – Mike Nesmith – Stone Poneys
Some of shelly’s blues – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
I’ve never loved anyone more – Lynn Anderson
Winonah – Mike Nesmith
Lovely. I never missed their show and my grandmother adored them too. Btw: Neil Diamond wrote I’m a Believer.

You are correct, didn’t check that. The Monkees performed it though.

Yes they did and the song so suited them.

The Monkees had a big influence on me and made me wanna join a band. I hadn’t even started learning a musical instrument by that stage.

Many catchy songs from The Monkees. Then again that what pop is.

As always, many thanks, Algy. Well, Davy Jones died in 2012 and Peter Tork passed away in 2019, so with Mike’s passing, the only surviving Monkee is Micky Dolenz – who’s 76 according to Wiki.
OK, the Monkees were a manufactured band, but they churned out a lot of catchy pop tunes. Nice to have a chance to sample Mike’s independent work.

Mike’s independent work isn’t bad and probably not recognised. Similar to Alex Chilton and Scott Walker in that regard.
I never mind good pop music and The Monkees were well produced.
