You know that’s not us, I’m sure.
But did you know that the little red headed lad in front of the fire on “Red Hair, Green Eyes & The Celtic Sound” is none other than your humble servant, at his ablutions in front of the fire at Fairbridge. The dogs name was Tilly because she like to dig.

Older thoughts.

The wife and I were sitting around the breakfast table one lazy Sunday morning.
I said to her, “If I were to die suddenly, I want you to immediately sell all my stuff.”
“Now why would you want me to do something like that?” she asked.
“I figure that you would eventually remarry and I don’t want some other wanker using my stuff.”
.
.
She looked at me and said: “What makes you think I’d marry another wanker?”

Whatever Hung says, I love Peter, Paul and Mary, and Simon and Garfunkel singing about old friends is heavenly.Tom Lehrer is funny and clever and Dean Martin is good for a giggle.
Sarah Vaughan is and sings beautifully.More listening later on…
Good selection Warrigal, as was Arriba, Arriba, and the one with snow and Betjeman… just to mention some of my favourite selections 🙂

An’ when we gets ‘im loaded up ‘is blessed girth-rope breaks.

I have the chord and lyric sheet Hung, if you want to include it in the official Burnside Refugees songbook…
Of course, that song is all about growing older… or, even worse: growing UP!

From memory (to test the old brain cell!):
“Since I still appreciate you,
Let’s find love, while we may…
Because I know I’ll hate you
When you are old and grey!
So say you love me here and now;
I’ll make the most of that!
Say you love and trust me
‘Cause I know you’ll disgust me
When you’re old and getting fat!
An awful debility
A lessened utility
A loss of mobility
Is a strong possibility;
In all probability
I’ll lose my virility
And you your fertility
And desirability
And this, my ability
Of total sterility
Will lead to senility
And a sense of… futility…
So lets act with agility
While we still have facility
For we’ll soon reach senility
And lose the ability…
Your teeth will start to do, dear;
Your waist will start to spread…
In twenty years or so, dear,
I’ll wish that you were dead…
So say you love me here and now;
I’ll make the most of that
Say you love and trust me;
‘Cause I know you’ll disgust me
When you’re old and getting fat!

Dammit! The old brain cell’s not what it used to be! I forgot the second chorus… and it’s not the same as the first one! “So please remember, when I leave in December, I told you so, in May!”
Think I’ve got ‘old timer’s’ disease!

No. It’s called Cut and Paste Disorder

But I didn’t cut and paste anything, Hung… it was a genuine ‘from memory’ attempt at trying to remember the lyric; and not only did I get it wrong on the first attempt, I even managed to forget a line (or three the way I’ve laid ’em out!) after the second!
“I’ll never love you then at all, the way I do today…” THEN it goes into, “So please remember etc…”
Is there any hope for me at all, doc?

Great selection. Watched a documentary recently, with loads of interviews and live recordings of Jackson Browne. Actually, I feel as if I wrote that last week.mmm, maybe I did.
I would add Landslide, Fleetwood Mac here. it has some reflective, sorta travelling through life sentiment.
When one looks at this list, it makes one reflective. But also makes one think, “How the f*** do humans keep coming up with all this wonderful stuff” ? It’s just absolutely f****** amazing.
We’re all geniuses I rekkon. just being born?

Oh, if you want to know why I thought of Landslide, it was the heading this week. It sorta jumped out at me.

Thanks for reminding me that I’m not getting any younger, Warrigal! Seriously though, thanks for including ‘When You’re Old and Grey’ by Tom Lehrer in this week’s playlist; it’s always been a favorite of mine and even now I can remember every word of the lyric…

Waz – as always, thank you for this playlist. I hooked into Tom Lehrer – an old favourite of mine. And that led to his Elements song. And that led to Daniel Radcliff singing the same song on Graham Norton. Brilliant !
