Blessed be the tireless workers, Our Merv,
For they shall inherit the Long Weekend
At the end of the footy season and
Before the wasteland before the Cricket
And in the morning, it being sunny, the beach will beckon
But not the beach where the post-season footy tour goes.
Especially the losing teams.
Our Merv, grant everyone their wish for a great season.
Deny only the massed highway patrol their double demerit points.
And the virtuous supporters and the valiant players will walk with thee
Out of the change-room and into the sunny upland of the Sportsman’s Bar.
And restesth there for evermore, with bent elbow and laconic smiles.
Hosanna in the highest to something. Dunnowot.

Nicely put together.
I have a long weekend every other week. So with a few days off this is more of an endless weekend.

Friends and family all good this long weekend, Algy. Hope same is true for you and yours – and for all our friends. Perhaps a little less true just now for FM’s Mum – who, about ten days ago had an accident – a collision on the tennis court and busted her shoulder in three places – and now has a brand new titanium one. This should send a message to all septuagenarians with osteoporosis – to take care during their sport – or preferably go for a non-contact sport. She’s certainly not going to be bending the elbow chez le chateau de porc for some time yet, bless her cotton socks.

I thought that tennis was supposed to be a non contact sport, what next, bowls with a baton?

So did I, Big. I’m pretty sure that if FM finds herself in the same tournament as the overzealous player who crashed into FM’s mum, there’d be more than foot faults to worry about – and all the deuce on the court would be claret coloured !
FM superior is in rehab as we speak, but we suspect that there will be a very long period of physio, home help and other interventions into what was previously a fairly well-ordered life.
