My village chemist also selling out of lots of stuff. No bottles of panadol, just a few of the expensive packets. With hubby cancer I’m going through 6 pills a day ! And then 2 for me or sometimes four (bloody arthritis). No dettol (been none for weeks) and people getting extra scripts filled.
Shopping madness has hit my village big time. All due to non village shoppers – complete strangers. Can only by one toilet roll. Not a pack, there are no packs. Enough to give you the shits.
Mrs A just went to the butcher and fruit shop, the fruit shop complained that its like they’ve just discovered his shop and his reserve stock is gone. The butcher has panic buying. Both are saying its mad!
On Saturday there was someone buying up all the chicken schniddies and the butcher bagging them all. Another buying in bulk was asked about bum nuts, the bloke said I’ll take the box (144 eggs), the butcher said. Really! Managed to convince him that they came in trays, so he took two trays of 18. WTF is a couple going to do with a gross of eggs FFS!
It’s appalling and disgusting. The sensible shoppers now can’t get their usual weekly purchases because they weren’t greedy. I always keep relatively good stocks of stuff in my pantry as live out of town and can’t or won’t just pop in for a purchase. So, I’m not too badly off at present. I was lucky that daughter No.2 got me some dettol two weeks ago as is suddenly vital for daily dressing of hubby’s neck wound, that and Savlon and gauze and special sticky tape. I’ve been keeping higher than normal stock of panadol so not panicking (yet) but I need way way more than usual.
Something went wrong with my login. Anyhow, went to the local fruit shop this morning to buy some bananas. He opens at 6:30 but the doors were shut. Anyhow he tells me he’s closed for a few hours to put the prices up. Tells me that the prices at the markets have gone up significantly and his prices are now below cost. Reckons he had double his daily takings with the panic buying yesterday.
